Simple Fall Decorating Ideas (Fall Home Tour 2018)

I’m so excited to be sharing some simple fall decorating ideas and our fall home tour with you today.

If you look closely you might spot Max. This is his favorite spot in the entire house. When we bought the white sectional he wasn’t going on the couch, but I guess, like me, he has expensive taste! Ha! Ha!

Last year I only shared a few spaces and I’m doing the same this year. Don’t worry. I still took LOADS of photos. Perhaps too many. I feel very much behind this year. The front porch isn’t decorated yet and I haven’t pulled ANYTHING out from the basement. Last year I used many pumpkins. This year you may notice things are simpler. I just feel this desire to be in the moment and maybe that means doing less to be more for my family.

So here’s my simple fall decorating ideas:

Living Room

Add Fresh Flowers.

These gorgeous Dahlias, Queen Anne’s Lace and Fresh Greenery were from Holly Hill Farm in Cohasset. I buy our vegetables from their farm shop and they always have the most beautiful bouquets grown on the farm. Here’s the surprising thing. I don’t like orange, BUT I love this bouquet and I’m finding myself drawn to warmer colors this season.

Don’t worry, I wasn’t sipping wiskey while taking the photos.

Our current coffee table, though I love it, is too big for this space. I will be selling it soon. I was waiting for Luke to build me a new coffee table but he’s still working on his work bench so It’s gonna be a while. I’ve order a new coffee table that was on sale which I’ll share once it arrives. It’s round and think it will be nice not to have something so big here.

Add Texture

I’ve added texture with pillows. The oriental rug pillows are vintage and I bought them a few years ago. They look so great with the pristine white slipcovers on the couch.

Aren’t the colors pretty?

The throw is from Target. Conor HAD to have it. But I must admit. I HAD to have it, too 😉 The faux leather pillows are from Christmas Tree Shops and were only $14.99. I thought they play nicely into our dark woodwork and also the browns in the oriental rug pillows.

Affordable linen curtains add lovely texture to our windows.

Add Vintage Furniture that has Character

You guys all know how much I LOVE old furniture and painting some of it. We’re redoing Luke’s office. I just shared the wall color yesterday, but this little cabinet used to in there and though it would look so sweet in our living room so dragged it down.

I think it might become the perfect spot to mix up drinks. What do you think?

I’m in LOVE with the handles on it. Aren’t they pretty.

This winter I plan on painting this piece:

It’s from my childhood and holds so many memories. My mom used to store all my school work and book reports inside. 😉

This black roll top desk also add a fun shape to the other side of the room. I painted it last year.

Add Branches

Real and faux branches make a home feel more cozy and inviting.

I shared our early fall mantel, the other week and it’s really decorated simply with old books and branches from the grocery store.

Nothing like a crackling fire to set the mood.

Cozy Seating

In the cooler fall months, I love to linger here by the fire.

The simple chairs are from Ikea and I love the linen covers. The kilim pillow cases are from Revival Rugs.

Celebrate Children’s Art

My son drew this and I loved it so much I had it professionally framed. I think it’s so important to celebrate children and their talents. The owl looks great in these autumn months but I have it hanging year round.

Shall we move into the dining room?

Dining Room

Our dining room is though these beautiful columns which are original to the home. In the dining room I’ve decorated simply taking my inspiration from nature.

Hydrangea and Eucalyptus Tablescape

Simple limelights clipped from my neighbors yard and beautiful euclyptus and baby boo pumpkins from Trader Joe’s center this pretty tablescape.

Use Vintage Items to Tell a Story

This is my mother’s china and the silver has a lovely patina. I don’t polish it on purpose.

Most of the items in here have been collected over time – the chandelier, the cabinet, the welsh dresser and the antiques that adorn them.

This gold gilded frame used to hang in my parents restaurant. It was in the entry.

I turned this pretty basket of hydrangeas into a pretty free printable for you.

Add Fresh Flowers to Jugs

But you don’t need to spread out a lavish tablescape. It also looks so pretty on a dining table to clip your favorite blooms and plop them in a jug.

It’s simple and elegant and no-fuss.

Last but not least, I wanted to take you into our sunroom.

A few weeks ago, I made this pretty wreath with some dried hydrangeas. It’s the perfect time of year to dry them and to create beautiful things with them.

I used a grapevine wreath, some glue and my dried hydrangeas.
