A Found and Foraged Tablescape

A found and foraged tablescape to celebrate fall! Limelights, eucalyptus and white pumpkins adorn our table along with a few antiques.

This year I’m really trying to embrace being grateful. Not worrying about what I should be doing or shouldn’t doing. The focus is not on all that I don’t have, or things I want, instead my focus is on all the wonderful love and peace in my life. I’m focusing on my little family and the love I feel for them. With this in mind I decided to create a tablescape with items I already had, many of which hold great meaning to me.

For this tablescape I was inspired by pretty treasures collected by myself and my mother over time. I was also inspired by Nature. There is so much growing right now that’s  just so beautiful.

The china is my mother’s that she passed on to me. It’s from her wedding and the pattern is Juliet by Lenox. I love the soft delicate roses, the gilded details and, of course, the blue in the pattern.

Our table was built by my husband and it’s my favorite piece of furniture in our home. He put so much effort and love into it. The chargers are actually plastic which I painted to look like aged copper. You can see the full tutorial here. The silver was also my mother’s, she found it at a yard sale a long time ago, and I love using it for special occasions. I realize it’s slightly tarnished but I love that look. Nothing is perfect around here.

I clipped more of my friend, Jann’s, limelight hydrangeas and interspersed eucalyptus and white pumpkins, both from Trader Joe’s. The little white pumpkins were 69 cents a piece and bunches of eucalyptus were $2.99. Quite affordable. What I love about this centerpiece is that it will dry on the table and still look so beautiful. It smells amazing.

White pumpkins sit on each place setting. I tried to find quirky pumpkins, some fat, some with very long stems, I think the add character to the table.

This is the world’s best bread by Mainstay Bakery and the butter knife was from my grandmother’s home. The olive board from a family trip to Italy when Conor was very small.

The brass candlesticks were also a thrift store find from a few years back.

I took far too many photos of our little tablescape.

I also added a bowl of husk cherries from our garden. If you’ve never tasted them they are wonderful. Super sweet. I thought they symbolized our life and how with a little effort and a lot of love it grows to be happy, like the cherries in the husk.

Perhaps, that sounds corny, but I definitely think it’s true.

By example, I try to teach the kids how important it is to nurture things – our sweet dogs, our plants, our creativity and each other.

Spending time here as a family is the most important times, sharing our day, telling stories and being happy to be in each others presence. It’s the people, not the the things, that make these moments so very special.

I really enjoyed creating this found and foraged tablescape.
