Massachusetts is now on lockdown as many other areas are now. So I’m trying to use what I already have in our home decor and craft projects. Today a bunch of blogging friends are sharing Easter projects as part of Krista’s Seasonal Simplicity Tour. I thought I’d give a few tips for creating a tablescape and will also share a source list at the end of the post.

Add Texture

I love the natural wood of our farmhouse table. My husband built it out of reclaimed heart pine which used to be a factory floor in Georgia. I hardly cover it with a tablecloth because I love the warmth it brings to our room. For this tablescape I used a jute runner and woven placemats. I layered the dip dyed napkins on top for another soft texture. Wood slices and cake stands add additional texture.

Use Plants or Flowers

I love fresh cut flowers and plants in our home and our dining table is no exception. The tulips were from my local supermarket and the beautiful ferns were delivered to my front door by my friend Maryann, who owns Plantsandponytails. You might like to read my little chat with her from last week.

There are two kinds of ferns. A Bird’s Nest Fern as pictured above. The other is a Blue Star Fern and is in a glass planter. I love the airness they add to our table.

It’s Okay to Use Basic Plates

I LOVE white plates as they look so clean on a table and they make all food look delicious. These plates are very basic. They’re our every day plates from Ikea. The great thing is they make for a stress-free Easter – just throw everything in the dishwasher. You can elevate any plate or mug by what you put with it.

Mix in Antiques

I LOVE antiques as many of you already know. I think a little patina and age adds so much to a table and a home. Having a few old things sprinkled in adds charm and a little bit of history to your home.

Our home itself is considered “old” it was built in 1927, the Welsch dresser you can see in the background with ironstone is old, and so is the brass and crystal chandelier.

The brass candlesticks are also old. Antique ones my mom gave me. 😉

Add Some Sparkle

A tablescape should have a whimsical element. My hint of sparkle is these beautiful Easter eggs by Shabby Chic. Aren’t they so pretty?

I’m also using gold flatware.

One other whimsical element is eggs the boys and I painted together –
