Blue and White Christmas in the Dining Room

Happy Wednesday, friends! This year I’m so excited for Christmas. I’m currently snuggled in the daybed with loads of comforters, Max by my side, and I’m sipping cups and cups of tea. It’s only a few days until John will be home. All our holiday markets are finished and I’m teaching on Saturday and then we’ll get time together as a family, and really that’s all I want for Christmas this year. I want to bake cookies and sip eggnog, I want to lose to Conor playing Monopoly, and I can’t wait to gather here in the dining room. Luke’s mom will be joining us from England and my mom will be joining us too. So it’s a very special Christmas for our family! Let’s take a peek at the dining room.

Traditional Dining Room at Christmas

I love the dark woodwork in our home and I think you get such a nice perspective of it from our living room.

Luke built us this table and it’s still a favorite of mine. We’ve had so many wonderful meals here with family and friends. I painted it with milk paint and finished the top with natural woca oil. You all know how much I love blue and white so we’re leaning into that theme this year.

The rug was new last spring, a wonderful HomeGoods find. Read more about the Ralph Lauren Rug. You may remember back in the spring we re-oriented the room to this configuration and we still love it this way.

DIY Advent Wreath

Conor is making his confirmation this spring and wanted to create an advent wreath for our home. So we made one of our own with vintage brass candlesticks and garland that we wrapped as a wreath.

The twisted candles are so pretty. I found them at HomeGoods last year. The garland was from Afloral but they no longer have it in stock.

I love patinaed brass. It just makes me so happy. I have quite a collection of brass candle holders…

The candles look so pretty at night. Here you can see Conor lighting them:

The little etched glasses are actually wine or water glasses but I thought tea lights would be so pretty in them. Just such a pretty glow.

Charming Details

Our dining room is filled with charming details. For example, the beautiful dark wood china cabinet that’s built in to the room. It’s perfect just as it is. So I just added a simple wreath, a faux juniper one.

Across the room is a hand-painted cabinet I did in Miss Mustard Seed Milk paint – of course, blue and white! Can you believe I got this little piece for $20! This is where I store ALL my candles, napkins, placemats, and silver ice cream bowls.

The gold mirror used to hang in my family’s restaurant and the ironstone bowl was a gift from a dear friend. I decided to keep my lovely plants out and just add a little tree. This is a faux one from Ikea. I got it about 11 years ago, but it looks so real!

The brass and crystal chandelier is probably from the 1950s and I found it at an antique store which has since closed.

Blue and White Christmas

The dining room wouldn’t be complete without my blue and white Cornishware collection. You can read more about collecting Cornishware and my collection here.

Sprigs of juniper and Cornishware and Ironstone

Our Cornishware is a mixture of old and new. We use the new pieces daily.

This Welsh Dresser is full of treasures – shells, Ironstone, Blue Willow, Cornishware and some new treasures like the olive wood bowl and spoons from Kenya, and handmade porcelain cups that look like agate (we got those at holiday markets). If you look closely you’ll also see my collection of holiday napkins. I have a bit of obsession with napkins.

Here’s a closer look at how I styled the shelves:

Usually, I load the cabinet with branches and this year I wanted it lighter and more simple. I just used a couple sprigs of greenery.

I thought it worked well with the juniper “wreath” on the table.

White bottle brush trees on red books

I also nestled some bottle brush trees on some vintage books. I placed one in a Cornishware eggcup.

I hope you enjoyed this peek of our dining room decorated for Christmas!

I also have a collection of Cornishware, about 30 pieces. I started it from a few pieces my grandmother had. I love it, but it’s really hard to find, even in England.

Beautiful, as always! I love juniper and it looks great in your home. I will always be envious of the wood trim in your house!
