Time to Towel Swap

Time to towel swap! It’s a great time of year to update your bathroom for guests with the holidays coming up.

As many of you know, our home was built in 1927 and bathroom space is small in our home. We have one and a half bathrooms. This is our full bathroom and we share it with our two boys who can be messy. Okay, I’ll admit it they usually are very messy. 

If you’re limited on space, like us, and have messy children I’m gonna share some storage and decorating solutions for your bathroom.

Pretty Storage Solutions

We have a great built in our bathroom but it was a mess with beach towels, first aid, tooth paste. You name it! It was all crammed in here:

I used beautiful turkish towels from Home Depot and placed them in lovely coastal woven baskets.

Baskets for towels, one for hand towels and one for washcloths.

I also used a large oversized basket to store extra towels and sea sponges.

It can also double as a carrier for laundry or fresh linens.

Easy to Care for Shower Curtain

We’ve always had cotton shower curtains and I spotted this adorable tuxedo style one on Home Depot’s site. It’s made of polyester and is durable.

The horizontal stripes make our small bathroom feel bigger. It also reflects light. Our old shower curtain used to get so dirty when the boys would take baths or showers. I’m pleased to tell you that this one doesn’t have any dirty finger prints on it 😉 I love how elegant it looks in the room.

Add Pattern with a Throw Rug

This zig zag pattern on this bath rug is so playful but also ties in the taupes, whites and tans of our bathroom.

Add Fresh Flowers in Unexpected Containers

This glass jar made me think of the coast with it’s twine weaving. It also makes a pretty vase for fresh flowers.

 

Fresh flowers or branches can perk up any room. Bathrooms are a great place to bring in some greenery and nature! It will make you smile while you brush your teeth! I promise.

Coastal Accents

There’s something about coral that I love so much. I love the organic shape, the neutral color and that it reminds me of my favorite place. When we were in St. John I saw huge chunks of coral on the beaches but people are not permitted to take it off the beaches because it’s protected.

This faux coral from Home Depot is so realistic. Even I am fooled!

Sustainable Seating

This teak bench has offered so much to our small bathroom. A space to sit and dry off. A spot to cut the kids’ nails (they seem to grow so quickly).

This bench is made from sustainably harvested wood that has been dried. It even arrived with this tag showing all the people who worked on this beautiful piece we now enjoy in our bathroom. I love seeing the craftspeople behind furniture.

This bench is made to get wet. So it can work inside the shower too!

It’s also great for more fluffy towels and succulents I love so much!

Patterned Ceramics for Small Storage

Hide cotton swabs or pads in a lidded pot that has loads of style.

The rattan design of the porcelain compliments the coastal tone of our seaside bathroom.

A few small touches make our bathroom feel so fresh and inviting. It almost feels like a spa now (even with two little boys and sticky fingers).

Warm, fluffy white towels, gorgeous teak, woven sea grass baskets, fresh flowers and coastal elements make it so refreshing and calming.
