Get the Look: Black and White Decor Ideas for Your Pool
We’ve been spending a lot of time by the pool and in the pool house this summer. It’s just been so HOT and HUMID here in Scituate. I wrote a little guide on getting the look: Black and White Decor Ideas for your pool and patio!

Black And White Decor
For a long time I was averse to using black in my home decor. I loved everything light, airy, and coastal, but over the years I’ve grown to love black accents. They allow for a little drama, but really, I think black becomes a neutral like gray or white. It’s restful on the eyes when used as an accent.
This summer I’ve added many black accents to our pool area and already had some in the pool house. Let’s start by the pool shall we?
Black and White Decor – Pool Area
Striped Pillows
First of all I added four of these lumber striped pillows from C2. Originally, I had three navy and white pillows out here but really wanted four pillows to go with our four gray loungers. Initially, I loved these cabana pillows but didn’t love the price.

I did some searching and bought the Calyx Black Striped Throw Pillow. I adore how they look and love the light hint of green stripe because it picks up the color of the ferns and all the plants around our pool. The best part is they were only $15.97!!!!

Black Umbrella
We are huge fans of the umbrellas by IKEA. This is our third one. We originally had a white one which was too small for the pool area. We just replaced a tan one that we had for years, we broke it trying to force it open. We opted for black this time and I’m so happy we did! This is the umbrella we got.
The umbrella is oversized and creates much needed shade above our teak table.

The umbrella is very similar to ones from Crate & Barrel which are priced at $1759. The IKEA version is a fraction of the cost at $239. It has the same mechanism for opening and closing and is cantilevered. Our base is an older one from Ikea but they’re now doing bags which you fill with sand.

Why I love this umbrella:
- Love the look of it – classic and elegant
- Extra large so provides plenty of shade
- Well built
- Affordable but not cheap
- Easy to use
Black Outdoor Plant Pots
Can you believe these pots are resin? We got these black pots from Lowe’s a few years ago, but they still sell them. In previous years, I’ve used them on our back patio but love how the black works with our other elements.

The Kimberly ferns (which love sun) look so pretty in them. I think it adds a resort vibe to the pool area!
Special Trick – I use these plant risers to lift plants up inside pots. They come in different widths so you can customize for your planters.
White Adirondacks & Garden Stool
We already had white adirondacks similar to these and a garden stool, so I decided to create a little sitting area outside of our pool house. It’s the perfect spot to read as the sun goes down.

We love white adirondack chairs as they make the perfect coastal overflow seat. We have four with foot rests also around our solo stove. These adirondacks are made with recycled plastic.

Black and White Decor – Pool House
Let’s step inside the pool house for a closer look at the black and white decor inside.

I shared an in depth reveal of the inside of the pool house when we converted it from the She Shed to a pool house.
Black and White Hardware
Some products are no longer available, like the light which was by Leanne Ford for Target but this one is similar. The oil rubbed hardware is from D. Lawless and has stood up great.

The black hooks are also by D. Lawless. The rattan and white mirror was a bargain find at HomeGoods.

Black and White Accents & Built Ins
The black and white striped pillows, woven pillows, and black and white table is all from Target, but they no longer have them in stock.
Luke built the slat-front benches, the butcher block counter, and the raw edge shelf.

The garden stool is from Home Depot and the Sailboat photograph on metal is by Kjeld Mahoney Photography.

We store all the pool and outdoor cushions in these benches and we use the butcher block counter as an outdoor bar. The little fridge has soft drinks, sparkling water, and canned cocktails.

The decor in here hasn’t changed all that much since the reveal, but I do add a few decorative elements each season like the the vintage bird and the artificial plant.

I hope this post gave you some fun ways to add black and white into your home.
