On Trend: Modern Industrial Lighting

On Trend: Modern Industrial Lighting. This look has been popular for a few years and I don’t think it’s going out of style anytime soon. Perfect for modern farmhouse rooms or kids’ bedrooms.

Modern industrial lighting we're loving / Finding Silver Pennies

Last week, I shared my goals for 2019. One goal was to add a few additions to make our boys’ bedroom a little bit more grown up. Yesterday, I sat in their room with them and we talked about what they LOVED about their room and what they didn’t like. John (our nearly 13 year old) said he loved the size but thought it could be laid out better. Conor (our 9 year old) said he wanted his bed, his dresser and desk all on one wall. This isn’t physically possible.

You can see how their room is looking here.

I took that photo last spring. We did a complete overhaul of this room 2 1/2 years ago, replacing the ceilings, painting, taking down a faux wall, adding a workspace, and all new decor. This refresh will not be that extensive. Although, John was wondering if we could convert the attic to his room….

This isn’t physical possible either.

Anyway, we started looking at replacement lights for their work area. This is how it currently looks.

We really love the black / oil rubbed bronze look we have going. The lights, however, haven’t worked as well as we’d hoped.

Swing Arm Wall Light - Finding Silver Pennies #interiordesign #coastal #newengland #kidsroom #kidsworkspace

The light itself is so heavy that it falls and hits the wall, almost hitting John a few times.

Sigh.

The first on our room “to do” list is find functional and stylish lighting.

Since the light doesn’t hang directly over their desks, some of the lights shown below won’t work. While I love the swing arm sconces I’m just too worried to order another set for fear they will fall again. I’m really drawn to the accordion style and they boys think they are pretty neat, too!

I’ve included affiliate links below, if you click on the link I may receive a portion of the sale.

I hope this helps you if you’re also thinking of some modern industrial lighting for your own home.

We’re leaning toward 2 or 7. I think number 6 would look adorable in a coastal bedroom. What lights do you like the best?

I really liked #7 immediately. It seems sturdy yet lol e the wood accent handle to just break up all the black .

I really love the brass detail on #2. And the fact that it looks so much like #7 but is so much more affordable makes it a winner for me. I love the chairs you chose, btw!

I think #2 looks masculine and sturdy, but admit I like #7 too, ya know they look very similar, maybe the photos are deceiving as #7 backplate could be the same size as #2. Before I noticed you had attached photos, while reading my brain went to something that goes up & down, chained or how #2 & #7 do, but wondered if your kids are more careful than mine. I’d worry how sturdy these up & downs are being pulled by MY kids. My boys are college & high school, but I would still worry, shoot who I am… Read more »
