My Pollyanna Moment & Dining Room Chairs

Have you guys ever watched the 1960s film Pollyanna?!?

I adored it when I was little and, if I remember correctly, would watch it most days.

I loved Hayley Mills’ character and her optimism, but never liked how she falls out of the tree.  I would always watch hoping beyond hope that the ending would be different.  I remember one scene where she strings up loads of crystals and rainbows dance around the room.

I’ve always wanted to do this.  Even as an adult. Both John and Conor have a crystal in their bedrooms. But with our new chandelier for the dining room I don’t need to.  These crystals are so beautiful and pick up the lights of the chandelier.

I’ve been so busy with the open studio last weekend that I haven’t shared our progress in the dining room.  Luke rewired the chandelier so it could be long enough and then we hung it up.  It looks sooooo pretty.

We also recovered the chairs.  I painted them in Old White Chalk Paint® and used this beautiful Sunbrella fabric from Online Fabric Stores.  They had so many wonderful fabrics to chose from.

I decided upon Sunbrella fabric for its durability.  I’ve heard you can just wipe it clean and you all know I have little boys…  I’ll let you know if that is true after a few months 🙂

Covering the chairs was not an easy process.  First we had to remove the material that was there.  I thought no problem….

But there was more fabric – two layers.  1960s, yellow fabric.  Fun and retro but not right for the serene blue and white I was going for.

Yup, there I am between two dressers!

After removing both layers of fabric we recovered them using an electric staple gun.

Conor thought the whole process was too loud!

Here’s the result:

I can’t wait to show you the rest of the dining room next week!  Happy Friday, my friends! Here’s a little sneak peek to tied you over:

Disclosure: Online Fabric Stores provided me with a gift card to buy the fabric for the chairs.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love the transformation. I too have used outdoor fabric on dining chairs. It just makes so much sense and there are no so many colours and patterns. I can’t wait to paint my cane back chairs!

Your dining room is coming out so beautifully! I love your chairs! They are exactly what I’ve wanted for our dining room, with the high caned seat backs. They actually look very similar to the set my parents bought in 1971! If my dad ever decides to get rid of them, I’ll be swooping them up! Looking forward to seeing the finished room and all of the projects you have going on in your wonderful “new” home! Hugs, Leena

I bet you’re pleased you found that chandelier, it’s gorgeous. Your dining room furniture looks great against the dark wood floor and your great rug, looking forward to seeing the rest of the room.
