Living Room Updates

Since Christmas we’ve been adding a few items here and there to our living room.  These changes were accelerated with the decision to list our house for sale.  I’ll share more about that later this week.

Our Living Room

Last time I blogged about our living room (about a year and a half ago) it was looking like this:

Living Room (1st Reveal)

And here:

Living Room (1st Reveal)

I really wanted to replace that couch with the unfitted slipcover.  I really felt like it was too big for the room and the boys were always lounging on it so the unfitted slipcover came untucked.  I’m truly loving my new Ikea white arm chairs.

Living Room (After)

The Ektorp JennyLund arm chairs were a bargain for $199 each.  They really open the space up and make it seem bigger.  John and Conor love perching on the one right next to the TV and I never have to re-tuck anything!  You may also notice the TV stand.  We replaced the painted table with the Vittso TV stand from Ikea.  This was also a bargain $39!  I love how there is room for the DVD player and the cable box.  The glass top and stream-lined shape enable it to almost disappear in the corner.

The chairs are a great place to sit and enjoy a cup of tea in the sunshine or tap away on the laptop.  I absolutely love my new cushions which were in a Miss Mustard Seed pick on Joss & Main.  They had me at the blue and white pattern:

I love, love, love the print, texture and the colors; such a cheerful blue and white print.

For spring I decorated the mantel in a nautical theme and pulled out these nests with preserved eggs from Decor Steals.

The last addition to our living room was this orchid plant (the nest is sitting just out of camera shot):

If you look closely you may realize it is faux, but then again you may not.  Friends have been saying how beautiful my orchid is looking 🙂  Thank you, Home Goods!

What about you?  Have you been making some additions to your living rooms?

I did change around my LR a bit this past week, actually! I took a piece from another room and recycled it and moved it to the LR. I was watching HGTV and got a great idea to turn a console table into a desk. I needed a place to put the phone in the LR. LOVE those white chairs!

Hi! I am visiting from Give Me the Goods Monday. Love your living room… the ikat pillows are gorgeous! We have those same chairs from Ikea in front of our windows… perfect for a beachy/cottage look (I try to go for that look too:) I am working on brightening up our living room right now too, yours already looks so beautiful and light and airy!

Your living room is lovely. I really like those chairs. We have a huge couch and loveseat that are entirely too big for our small living room. There is one Ikea here in Michigan, but it is about 4 or 5 hours drive away! With money tight right now, I may just have to find something used that I can recover.

Best of luck on selling your house. Thank you for sharing it at to What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a lovely week!

Hugs,
Deborah

The room is beautiful. I love how a few small changes make a big difference. My favorite touch is the little rocker and the red chair in the room. They provide that something extra and warm the room with color and the knowledge that some little people really sit there!

Thank you! I know little changes can make such a HUGE difference. The red chair is my 3 year olds and the black is my 7 year olds. It used to be mine when I was little.

GREAT idea with those chairs! Moving that large sofa out really opened up the room and makes it look so spacious and airy! Love all of your sweet improvements! 😉
