Island Inspired Living

White slipcovered furniture, leafy palms, nautical charts. I love coastal decor and today I wanted to talk about island inspired living.

Island Inspired Decor in the She Shed

Around this time of year, with the weather changing here in New England, and the daunting winter about to arrive with it’s Nor’easters, blizzards and flooding. Well, it’s this time I day dream about island living. My thoughts wander to pink sand beaches, collecting beautiful shells, aqua waters of the Caribbean and how I can imbue our home with this island vibe.

The above photo was taken in the she shed a few years back. You can read about that here.

It’s amazing what lots of greenery can do in blue and white containers.

Our living room and bedroom also have an island living vibe.

Large leaves and Island Inspired Decor

Those giant leaves are actually faux and from Ikea. You can read more about the summer mantel here.

If you like island inspired decor then I think you’ll love the new book Island Hopping by Amanda Lindroth.

Island Hopping by Amanda Lindroth

You guys, it’s so dreamy! From the seagrass paper on the outside of the book, to the stunning photography by Tria Giovan and lovely watercolor illustrations by Aldous Bertram. Amanda has such a wonderful personality. I had the chance to meet her and attend a book launch at the Boston Design Market at the Boston Design Center. I was instantly enamored with her style, her sense of humor, and her genuine interest to share sources and design tips. She is a self-trained designer, and since launching my design services, her words and advice were timely.

This is an image of her drawing room in the Bahamas from the book:

I’m now dreaming of staying at this beautiful hotel one day with Luke and the boys:
