Inspiring Spaces: Sandra Cavallo’s Home

Have you ever walked into a home and felt like you were getting a big hug?

This is how I felt when I walked into the beautiful coastal home of Sandra Cavallo. I met Sandra at Matthew Mead’s Magazine Launch party click here.  We became fast friends which I guess you can say is true for all of us he featured.  We really feel connected to each other and love hanging out. Her gorgeous home was featured in his second magazine, Matthew Mead’s Decorating.  Anyway, she invited us all down for a bit of a magazine reunion / pizza slumber party!  Matthew captured the evening beautifully:

It was an inspiring gathering.  We chatted and ooohed and ahhhhed over Sandra’s gorgeous home and had the most amazing pizza that she and her husband made in the brick oven in their kitchen, but I’ll get to that soon.

Today, I bring you the next installment of Inspiring Spaces: Sandra Cavallo’s Home (Silver Herring Point).

Looking at her home, you’d think it was here forever and that is precisely what Sandra and Phil wanted for their family home.  They had hoped to restore the original home when they bought it but it got to be too much, instead they designed this gorgeous facade.  Sandra drew the initial designs out on a cocktail napkin and all the rooms were designed with Scout in mind.

The family room structure actually plays homage to this building:

This place is so beautiful and so special.  I love the weathered shingles, the white trim, the stone foundation and all the plantings.  On one side is Old Silver Beach and on the other is the marsh. Stunning views all around.  EVERY room has gorgeous water views but more than that there is just so much heart in each and every room. She told us that her son put a coin in the foundation with the year they built it. Sandra has this ability to create moments for family and friends to enjoy and linger over in her home.  I took so many photos I thought it might be good to break down by rooms and there is no way I can show you everything.

The Entry

The warm wood tones of an antique French dresser plays off the white walls.  I love how Sandra takes old and mixes it with new, like for her banister which she had stripped and dipped:

This peeks into the living room but we’re not going there just yet:

Sandra is a designer and she has used a lot of typography in her house. The 2s reference her twin children.

Sleeping Porch

Have you ever wanted a sleeping porch that can used year round? Sandra has one and it is precious.  Amy and Dave stayed in this room.

Through the doors is this amazing room.  All these wooden doors were from the original home and they had them stripped.  I love the wood, don’t you?

Look at those hydrangeas!  Just over the hydrangeas is a view of Old Silver Beach.

The Laundry Room

I know many people don’t give laundry a second thought. Well, I’m telling you I’d be happy to move into Sandra’s laundry room.  I took over a dozen photos of this space!  I love the white walls and how she uses vintage elements to create a fresh space that is a pleasure to clean up dirty clothes:

The light fixture is hand blown and she found it at Brimfield.  I think I need one!  I love the shape.

The curtains are a stroke of genius:

Do you see the rod and the pins?  It reminds me of fresh linen drying on the line.

 Sandra also has a lovely way of using fresh greenery and plants in her decor which adds to the fresh feeling:

Living Room

This gorgeous fireplace is from the original home and they build the house around this feature.

 

I love this look of the old beach stone and equally love that Sandra and her husband saved this feature of the original house and made it such a beautiful focal point.

Sandra salvaged these doors from Brimfield and knew one day she’s create a bookcase out of them. Isn’t this a beautiful feature?  I love the wavy glass.

Sandra designed this low table using vintage marble from her mom.

We sat here on Sunday morning drinking lattes and eating croissants from French Memories in Cohasset.  So lovely and relaxing sitting and chatting.

The soft fur throws and blankets add so much warmth and texture to the already inviting space.

This chair.  Yes, this one right above.  I wanted to take it home. Sandra found it in an abandoned building and upholstered it in hide. I would have tried to put it in my car if I thought she wouldn’t notice 😉  LOVE this chair so very much. Just have to show you one more photo of it. It is so soft.

The Dining Room

The Living Room is open plan into the dining room and also shares the stunning views of the ocean.

So much to enjoy in this room.

The mantel which has been trimmed with driftwood and antique metal tiles:

The Kitchen

It is a large open plan space which is quite modern and no fuss.  The center island is concrete with amazing metal legs.  It is beautiful empty as above or filled with people.  You can see us all in there celebrating and talking:

This was a nighttime shot so the lights were on.  But as you can see we all really love each other and love catching up.

Here’s a view from the kitchen into the entry.  Isn’t that light fixture stunning?

I told Luke I want this in our house if we ever do an addition and make the kitchen bigger.  This is a pizza oven:

It’s a little bit blurry (sorry about that), Sandra and her husband built this out of stones they found on the property. Can you see the little heart one? She said, “they put it in the heart of their home”.  Phil made us each a pizza in this wood fire oven and it is the best pizza I’ve ever had (even better than in Italy).

The Family Room

This room is so cozy and I LOVE the fireplace and the clock that Sandra created with salvaged finds.

She also created the light fixture.

Oooh, that chippy cabinet makes my heart skip and beat paired with the cozy sectional. Don’t you just want to curl up?

The weekend went much to quickly and before I knew it was time to say bye.  Hopefully for not too long.
