Friday Favorites (66)

It’s almost the end of May and what a month it has been! May is my absolute favorite month and this May did not disappoint as it was full of celebrations and milestones: my birthday and our wedding anniversary, John moving into an off-campus apartment, Conor going to prom and so much more. I have soooooo much to share with you this month!

Favorite Floral Display

Each year I’m IN LOVE with the floral display at the Lucky Finn created by the Beach Plum Floral team. It was beautiful complete with butterflies and birdsong.

If you look closely you can see me on the right with sunglasses on. It was such a magical preview in the harbor on the Thursday night.

Favorite Books

First I need to give a shout out to my friend Jennifer who’s first book just published last month. I had the chance to read The Summer I Found You. You are gonna want this one for your beach bag. I enjoyed the Hamptons setting & the romance.

You may want to read my Creativity Over Coffee interview with Jen here.

I couldn’t put Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke down! Anne Hathaway has already signed on to make the movie adaptation. This book was sooo good and had so many twists. Basically without giving too much away, the book is about Natalie Heller Mills and the perfect farm life she created for her family but what people don’t see is the help she has – the nannies, the assistant, the digital producer. That perfect life isn’t really what it seems and one day she wakes up into a life that isn’t her own. Well, I LOVED it! It’s an interesting subject matter when so much is shared online and on social media and the implications of that.

I finished the Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. I know I already shared this last month, but I now think its one of my favorite books. Imagine escaping into a secret hidden library?

I’m now reading The Astral Library by Kate Quinn. Luke and the boys gave it to me for my birthday. This book is about escaping into the worlds of actual books. Like imagine if you could go live in the world of Pride and Prejudice or Sherlock Holmes etc. I’m really enjoying it.

Favorite Podcast

I’ve been a long time listener of the Preppy Podcast but it was such an honor to be interviewed myself. If you’d like to listen or watch on YouTube, I’d love you to take a look. Patricia is so nice and easy to talk to.

Favorite TV / Film

We’ve been watching so much lately and I have many good recommendations to share.

TV

Rooster on HBO Max – I actually was surprised how much I enjoyed this series. It stars Steve Carrell as a writer and visiting professor at a university. I love the relationship he has with his daughter and the friendships he builds with his students. In some ways it reminds me of Ted Lasso. Very funny and heartwarming.

Widow’s Bay on Apple TV – Set on an island akin to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket (well, at least the mayor of the town would like it to be). Something is amiss on this seemingly idyllic island. Part horror, part comedy. Stars Matthew Rhys. Very well done. Parts were filmed in Massachusetts and Maine.

The Other Bennet Sister on BritBox – The story of Mary Bennet, the other Bennet sister. As you know I love Jane Austen and this is imaging a different story from Pride and Prejudice. Well written. Well cast. We are enjoying this very much.

Films

Ladies First on Netflix – This film is so well done. We laughed sooooo hard. A star studded cast lead by Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike. It’s about a male chauvinist who wakes up in a parallel world run by women.

Favorite New Product

The new nautical collection is making me so happy right now. People are loving the oysters and flags.

Favorite Afternoon

We went out on our good friend’s boat on Memorial Day and it was so wonderful to have a BBQ and just enjoy time together. So grateful for good friends and this life in Scituate!
