It’s pretty cold here so many things involve the cozy indoors and warm apparel.

Favorite Cold Weather Gear

I’m LIVING in my warm coat, cashmere lined gloves, and boots.

Some current cozy favorites:

  • Sunglasses
  • Coat (I got the coat a few years ago from Outside In in Cohasset)
  • Snow Boots
  • Cozy Boots (I love that I can just slip these on with no socks & they feel like slippers)

Also, if you live in Scituate – Scituate Pharmacy has lovely cashmere scarves that are made in Germany. They’re so soft and only $20.

We’ve also been using this to clear our cars of snow and this to clear our yard.

Favorite TV & Films

We’ve been watching lots of good programs.

TV

Run Away – on Netflix. Starring Mini Driver, James Nesbitt and more is binge-worthy. We ended up watching more than one episode a night because it would end on a cliffhanger. It’s about a run away and her dad looking for her. Lots of twists and turns. Some things didn’t add up or we felt was weak plot points but we really enjoyed it.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials – on Netflix. We’re in the midst of watching this one. A three part series set in the 20s. We love the main character – a feisty and smart aristocrat Lady Eileen Brent.

Poker Face (season 2) – on Peacock. We didn’t really love the very first episode of season 2 but are loving the others. We really enjoy the main character, Charlie, and her ability to sniff out when someone is lying and to solve murders.

Films

People We Meet on Vacation – on Netflix. I haven’t read the book and have read this diverges from the book so as a movie I really loved it. Perfect date night in film.

Jane Austen Wrecked My Life – on Netflix . We loved this film. Set in France and England. It’s about a young woman, Agathe, who works at the famous Shakespeare & Co. but is an aspiring writer. The story really starts when she leaves France for England to take part in the Jane Austen’s Writer’s Residency Program.

Favorite Brunch

We went down to Galley for a snow day brunch one Sunday morning. It was amazing. I got the basic – toast, bacon, eggs, and home fries and Conor raved about the breakfast burrito. He loved it so much he got one “to go” the other day. We’re planning on going down for a family brunch this Sunday. Portions are very large – I brought half of mine home.

Favorite Upcoming Show

Works of the HeART opens this Friday night (2/6 at 5pm-9pm) and will be on display through February 12th. See more information here. It’s a community art show run by Marie at Native. Every piece of art has a reference to a heart.

I’ve submitted two watercolors this year. I did a second version of my Magpie with a Heart. This is a smaller version of the magpie I painted for this card.

The other piece is called 143 and is Minot Light at night with a starry sky.

I’m really excited to see everyone’s paintings. It is such a fun event!

Favorite Sculptures

Speaking of art. We went to the MFA on Sunday and absolutely loved this exhibit – Martin Puryear’s Nexus.

Martin Puryear's exhibit at MFA

We found his story fascinating and loved how he used wood and other natural materials in his sculpture. We also really loved a video that’s part of the exhibit. The film centered around the making of “Lookout” for the Storm King Art Center in New York, the link includes the film. Now we’d really like to visit Storm King. Have any of you been there before?

Favorite Books

Then Again by Diane Keaton I loved this book! A biography of Diane and her mom written from Diane’s perspective but also used journal entries by her mother.

What Have I Done by Teresa Driscoll – I’m almost finished with this thriller. It’s by our cousin Teresa Driscoll who lives in the UK. I interviewed her a few years ago for my creativity over coffee series, read it here. The book starts with a suspenseful opening – Laura, the main character, offers to share her room with a stranger when a flight is delayed…it maybe wasn’t a wise decision….

You all know how much I love watercolors and I’m always trying to get better. I borrowed the following from the library and I’m enjoying looking through them and playing with the techniques.

Down by the Sea with Brush and Pen by Claudia Nice – lovely water and beach scenes with ways of creating texture.

No Fail Watercolor by Mako – fun and simple projects perfect for beginner’s.

Everyday Watercolor Flowers by Jenna Rainey- This includes free flowing florals and more realistic style flowers. Fun in the depth of winter when one could use all the flowers!

Favorite Salad Dressings

My friend Courtney over at Clandestine Kitchen just launched these amazing new salad dressings, scratch made and preservative free. I love the chili lime and can’t wait to try the tahini ranch which is similar to Caesar dressing. Check out her site for updated information on where you can find them.

Favorites for Petites

I think I’ve shared this resource with you before but I’ve started using Short Story. It’s a monthly box but made for petites, 5’4″ and under. I wanted to share my special link with you because you can get the styling fee deducted. My box just arrived and I plan on keeping this outfit – perfect length cream trousers, lovely cashmere top, and navy raincoat. I am delighted that I can finally find clothes that actually fit me! You can customize price and the styles and color clothes you enjoy.
