Cute idea !!! ? Do you have to apply chalk paint first then the paint ??? Not clear ??

Thanks, Kathy! So sorry for the confusion! No, you could use black chalkboard paint. Paint three coats with a brush (not a roller) and then rub with chalk to prep the surface. If you want colorful chalkboard coasters then you can use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Paint as above and once dry rub with chalk to prep the surface.
