Bathroom Inspiration

Today I’m sharing bathroom inspiration for a fresh, coastal look in a shared bathroom.

We only have one full bathroom in our home, which we share with our sons. One day, I’d love to completely gut the bathroom and start over but here’s how it’s currently looking:

In the past I painted the vanity, which you can see HERE. I also updated it with a few additions from Home Depot, which you can read HERE. I also shared 7 budget friendly tips on refreshing this space HERE.

I painted the vanity nearly 3 years ago and it’s in need of a new paint job. I’m also not happy with how the Anthropologie hardware is holding up. The brass is tarnishing from the salt air and knob spins in place which is quite irritating.

When I styled this I LOVED everything white. Now, I’m craving some bold color.

Adding Blue.

You all know I LOVE blue. When I saw Annie Sloan’s NEW color – Oxford Navy – I knew I wanted to use it on the vanity. I didn’t even need to think about it.

Oxford Navy is an inky, deep blue. It looks like indigo or the blue you see in fountain pens. For me, it reminds me of the deep, blue Atlantic Ocean. I sight which I see often, living here in Scituate Harbor.

Here’s a glimpse of Oxford Navy on a piece of furniture by Annie Sloan:

Updating the Floor

I’m not a huge fan of the floor in here. The tiles are varying shades of beige and brown but that caramel color looks so yellow to my eye. I momentarily thought about painting the tiles white using the same paint I used on the sunroom floors and the pool house floor.

BUT paint wasn’t gonna cut it for this room as it’s our ONLY full bathroom.

So, I’m going to use a Vintage Vinyl Floorcloth. You may remember that I used one in our front hallway HERE.

I first was thinking about this one as it has a lovely farmhouse look, but I’d like to make more of a modern statement.

So I ordered this one.

Warming things up with brass hardware

I love how brass looks with navy. I think it really POPS! So, I’m replacing ALL the hardware with some from D. Lawless. I know it’s gonna be perfect!

Blue Accents

I also plan on adding some blue accents like this shower curtain:

Luke and I have been working hard on this space and hoping to share the reveal with you next week. For now here’s a mood board.

I just bought ASCP in Oxford Navy to paint my master bath vanity! The faucet is brushed nickel and the mirror has a wide silver frame so I think I’ll use silver hardware. Two years ago I painted my standard vanity gray after using a stencil and Dap wall putty to create a raised design on the front. I had to sand the “carvings” off with an electric sander and coarse sandpaper. It’s now ready for paint. I painted the wall behind the vanity a light blue not long after I painted the vanity. The rest of the room is… Read more »

Danielle, I LOVE your plan for the Coastal makeover! The Oxford Navy is co classic and certainly adds a pop of bold color! The navy trim is also a great accent for the shower curtain. The combination is so crisp and clean! I know you said you didn’t think it would be a good idea to paint the tile floor, since it is your main bathroom. But, if you used a commercial paint and had the large floor cloth covering most of the area, I think you might be able to get by with painting it after all. It would… Read more »
