How to Make a Map Bunting

Since sharing the playroom the other day, I’ve had quite a few request asking how to make a map bunting.  I’m happy to report it is easy and cheap.  If your kids are home this week it is a fun little craft project for them!

What you’ll need:
– String or Twine – I like twine as it is fun and colorful
– Maps (an old atlas works well)
– pencil
– cardboard
– glue
– scissors

My kids love maps and I thought it would be a colorful and fun element to add to their playroom.  At our “Take it or Leave it”(the Scituate Transfer Station) I found a fantastic atlas filled with beautiful maps.

Maps and Twine

First I cut out a template and folded the map page in half.  Along the fold, I placed the template and traced out my triangle. I cut out all the edges except the folded one.

I lined my baker’s twine up inside the folded edge and applied glue stick on the inside of the triangle and pressed together.  Then I repeated this until I had enough triangles for the length of my baker’s twine.

Here’s  how the finished map bunting looks:

It is a super easy and super fun craft project!  My boys love the map bunting!

This looks great! I love the idea of using maps – I made some bunting a couple of years ago using butterfly wrapping paper (the thick kind) and it turned out well too! Have a great weekend!
