Vitamin Sea I Scituate Harbor

Scituate Lighthouse a peaceful view

“At the beach, life is different.

Time doesn’t move hour to hour, but mood to moment.

We live by the currents, plan by the tides and follow the sun.” – Unknown

We live so close to the sea.  We can walk to this lighthouse from our home.  I know I shared highlights from Scituate last fall (click here if you missed it), but really my little seaside town shines in the summer.

By the sea is our favorite place to be.

I know some of you who read the blog have never ever been to the beach or to the ocean. So I thought it might be nice to try to make you feel like you’re there through this post.

The ocean is so enormous and looking out into it seems to wash your troubles away. Hearing the waves crash or that little ripple of rocks when the tide goes back out to the sea; well, that sound is magical.  There is something so calming about the sound of the tide lapping the shore, tenderly kissing the coastline. I love when it foams.

Watching the Waves

They say if you pick up a shell, you can hear the sound of the tide.  I find this works with conch shells, but we don’t get those at our beach – mostly mussels, periwinkles, oysters and clams.

The sand can be so warm in the summer sunshine (sometimes so hot it can burn your feet), but on mornings like this one it is cool.  It feels soft between your toes.

We love to build castles with buckets but also drippy sandcastles that look like something out of an amazing magical land filled with dragons and knights and wizards.

The smell of the air is quite sweet with tangy saltiness.  It lingers there and gets in your hair and on your clothes and when you leave the beach it stays with you.  You smell like the sea.

From the jetty

Going to to the beach is my vitamin sea!  I always feel better after gazing out upon the deep blues sea, dipping my toes in the water or floating on top gazing up at the sky, watching the clouds float by. Time no longer matters.

Our oldest took his first sailing lessons last week and on Thursday, Conor and I watched them race in the harbor with a picnic lunch out on the jetty.  It is mesmerizing watching these white sails billow in the breeze.

Coastal living

I guess you can see why I love the color combination blue and white so much.  It is inspired by the sea.  This week and next week I’ll be sharing more coastal inspired DIYs with you.

For now, I wish you a wonderful Monday filled with the magic of the sea.

Boats in the harbor

I hope in some small way you can feel like you’re hear with us soaking up the salt air.

hi Danielle, we leave today so your post was very poignant for me as I’ll miss the sound, sight, and smell of the sea so much! I’ll see it now through your eyes in the blog! Love the photo of the two small boats off of Museum Beach – I took a similar photo on Friday on my last walk around Scituate. Wishing you the best! Denise xx

I work out of my home studio which is right outside Scituate Harbor a little south of Boston and near Cape Cod. On days when the weather cooperates you ll find me out kayaking along these and nearby shores of New England collecting sea glass and enjoying being out on the ocean.
