Some Blank Walls

So this is going to be a quick post.  My son is turning 6 today and I’ve been up to my eyeballs in all things lego for his little birthday party.  We’re having a few of his friends from school over in a short while to celebrate this happy day.  Can’t wait to share the birthday photos with you on Monday.

So I just wanted to talk to you today (briefly) about hanging pictures and family wall galleries.  We can be lazy in this department.  These beautiful Beken of Cowes photographs (from Crate & Barrel) were hanging in our kitchen dining area and we decided to move them into the living room.  I think it adds to that coastal feel I love.  In time I’m hoping to have some built-ins on either side of the fireplace.

Before

Luke and I put off hanging images on the walls because we often debate on the right height.  I’m 5 ft and he is close to 6ft so, as you can imagine our eye level is slightly different.  We went with Luke’s decision on these images and I think he was right, especially if we put smaller built-ins underneath.

I love how the sails billow in the gusts of wind and how the sea looks so tranquil.
On the same day we also tackled a family wall gallery in our kitchen dining area.  I really wanted to use the amazing photographs that Katina Bentley took of us in October as a family gallery.  We got some really fantastic and reasonable frames at Ikea – we didn’t spend more than $10 a frame.  Don’t you just love that place?  Oh, I also buy candles and paper napkins there.  Good prices as well!  So back to the frames, I knew I wanted white frames, but was interested in going with all different shapes and sizes.  This is what we got:
Ribba Frame, Ikea $9.99
Haverdal Frame, $3.99
Sondrum Frame, $3.99
So here is the before.  The big, blank blue wall that moving the Beken’s photograph left:
And here is the after:
I know many people use a template for this, but we framed all the photos and laid them out on the floor, positioning them until we got what we wanted.  Thanks to Ikea and to my husband, I’m now happy looking at our walls!  Happy Friday, Everyone!

Great job hanging all your pictures. I always have trouble getting them just in the right spot. Oh yes, I love Ikea. Thanks so much for your visit and for the pin:-)
