Our Brimfield Adventure

Entering Brimfield

Hi lovely friends!  I hope you didn’t think I forgot about you all.  I haven’t… but today has just been so busy that it is only now I’m getting to my computer.  Things have been so busy with the kids going back to school, trying to get some custom work done and catch up after our amazing trip to Brimfield Antique Show yesterday.  I’m so excited to share our adventure with you!

I first need to thank my amazing parents – Nonni & Grampy – for watching the boys so I could go on the ‘hunt’.  I also need to give a huge thank you to my hubby for taking the day off and getting up super early to leave.  It took hours to get there and I walked him to every field looking for a pie safe.

Some sad news, I didn’t find one I liked, but I found so many other amazing things.  Some that would fit in the truck and some that probably wouldn’t even fit in our house.  I love inhaling the atmosphere of Brimfield: the people (on the hunt), the experts with their stories and all the amazing treasures at every turn.

Antique Dodge

Like this antique Dodge.  Luke and I both thought it was beautiful.  I loved this chandelier, it reminded me of something out of Moulin Rouge:

I thought this mirror was pretty neat too.  Those are hands holding it:
Luke loved this old shower.  He thought it would make a fantastic outdoor shower:

I think he was only half joking as he looked at it for quite awhile!  Wouldn’t body misters be lovely in an outdoor shower?

Another place was selling drinking water from the army.  Just had to take a picture of the cans as they were manufactured in Boston.  I guess it gives new meaning to bottled water:

These made my heart skip many beats.

Empire Dressers

Aren’t they gorgeous?  I think they were only $300 and they were in perfect condition.  You wouldn’t even need to do anything with them.  We just don’t have any space, but believe me if we did…they would have been on the truck.  Loved them so much!

We also saw this amazing, rustic island.  It looks tiny but it was a good size and the most beautiful color:

Atticturnovers had some amazing finds.  Walter, the owner, scours bowiling lanes and uses the flooring for the tables and salvaged bases.  He also recycles all different pieces into pendant lights – wire, metal and tops of old chimneys:

Don’t those remind you of something from Restoration Hardware – only better?  Here is a glimpse of his tent:

Those tables were so cool.  But they wouldn’t fit in our house either…

I was in need of some paint (which does fit in our house) so stopped over to see my good friend, Nancy Chace, from the Sea Rose Cottage.

Nancy and I

Nancy’s space was set up so nicely and I loved looking at all her painted treasures.  It was so great to catch up and chat a bit.  I picked up some new colors I haven’t tried before – Aubusson Blue, Scandinavian Pink, Florence (Annie Sloan’s new color) and Primer Red.

Annie Sloan Brushes

I also picked up an Annie Sloan brush – a small one.  I’ve heard amazing things about how it holds the paint and adds texture without much effort.  I’ll let you know what I think as soon as I try it.  I can’t wait I’m so excited.

Here’s a glimpse at Nancy’s space:

Sea Rose Cottage at Brimfield

I love all the reds paired with the white washed table and all the fun finds!  Right next to Nancy was KingstonKrafts.  Mohammed, the owner / craftsman was so lovely to talk to.  They also paint furniture using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and all their pieces were lovely.

I really loved this one:

Isn’t that lovely?  I also love the pulls which he told me were from Anthropologie.  I think they make the piece.

Nancy also introduced me to Dailyn Giorgio who owns Creations by Dailyn and she’s just as addicted to chalk paint as I am.  I wish I got some snaps of her furniture but we were so busy chatting about techniques and finishes.  Her stuff was amazing too!
We also spent a lot of time talking to Bob and Bette Daigle of Country Squire Antiques.  They were lovely and based out of Fall River.  I learned so much from Bob about the history of dovetail and the New England pine chests I adore so much.  The old pine dressers really say New England (specifically by the beach).  We actually found John another dresser for his room which will complement his union flag bureau.  I swear my six year old has more clothes than me!!!  Here’s the dresser and Bob & Bette:
John’s Pine Chest and Bob & Bette of Country Squire Antiques
The chest is from 1780 – 1800 from New England.  Bob had just got the chest and it had already been stripped, but he hadn’t done anything with it yet.  So he gave us instructions on how to refinish the piece.  That is our plans for this weekend!
So I brought home the pine chest and a I also got these great finds for the shop in Plymouth –
Ball jars:
Vintage Ball Jars
I love this color blue so much!
A paddle that will be painted – I’m thinking maybe Primer Red for this:
Wooden Paddle

Some rusty fleur de lis:

I’m going to clean these up and paint them with some chalk paint.  I think they will look amazing as paper weights on desks or decorations on bookshelves.
Finally, I got some glass insulators.  I also love these colors.  They remind me of sea glass:
All in all, it was a productive and fun trip.  We learned so much and found so many lovely treasures.  I’m especially excited about John’s pine chest.  It is something he will have forever and can pass down to his children.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Danielle, Thanks so much for visiting! It was great to see you and Luke. I must agree—that outdoor shower fixture is awesome! The pine chest is so great and you did really well at the show. I know the pie safe has been elusive for you, but the right piece will come along!

Danielle ~ have you looked in PA for that pie safe you’re dreaming of? We used to live there back in the 80’s and then again in the early 90’s…lots of pie safes.

Brimfield looks amazing. I think something similar here would be Ardingly. It’s not far away, but I’ve never been – I only want to go if I have a lot of spare money !!
I love those Empire Chests too and it looks like you brought home some great things.

Oh! I _so_ wanted to make it out for the September show! But with the start of school and orientation and all the fevers, I wasn’t able to slip out as I was hoping. Looks like you found some fun stuff even if you didn’t find that pie safe!
