Home Renovations: The Final Installment

Wooo, it seems like only yesterday I was lamenting about my cracked ceilings. Guess what? The cracks are gone and so are the ceilings. Click here to see the demo. We have beautiful new plaster. I shared that the other week.

Our Home Renovations - the paint.

Well, yesterday Andy Lane and his crew finished up in here.  He painted all our new ceilings and also gave a fresh coat of paint to the living, dining room and we completely changed the color in the boys’ room. Above is Mascarpone in matte, the color that is in our living and dining room. Matte is so great in homes because it gives that old look and is easy to touch up. I use this finish in every room.

We’ve worked with Andy and his team a lot before despite doing a lot of DIY on our own.  You may remember back when we moved into our home they painted the exterior for us, click here to read that post. They also helped us out on our first home.  Over the years, I’ve sought advice as well as help. Andy has become a great friend and we love talking about wall color and paint. If you’re local and looking for painter, he’s your guy; quick, efficient, tidy and he always comes when he says he will.

Renovating An Old Home - Progress is happening.

It is truly amazing what a few cans of paint can do and three men.  They got through everything so quickly, working over the weekend and yesterday.  We’ve added wood picture rail too.  It looks amazing!

This is Andy here:

The work on our home has been going on for approximately six weeks. For one week we stayed at my parents and last weekend we were there too. I don’t know how people can completely gut a house while still living in it. I’m not sure I could do that. John and Conor have been troopers from sleeping on an air mattress to cuddling together on the guest bed. They are eager to get their room and playroom back (the playroom has been a dumping ground for rugs, chandeliers etc). No playdates while the work has been going on, to Conor’s dismay.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped us through this whole process. Thank you to my parents for letting all of us stay. Many thanks to our neighbor Chris for helping Luke move the things that were just too darn heavy (the couch) for me!!! Thank you to Fitzsimmons Construction for working efficiently and neatly. Andrew, the owner, put our minds’ at rest while we worrying about the support of the ceiling in our children’s room. He also found us a great electrician and plasterers. To MJ Carr for the amazing recessed lighting. Our living room is now bright and airy. To Doug and Darrell Rodriegues for the amazing plaster work. Our ceilings are beautiful and so smooth, not a crack in sight. Finally, thank you to Andy Lane and the guys for working so quickly and painting up a storm!

Our old house has a new life and we’re in love with it all over again. Well, not that we weren’t in love with it but you know what I mean 😉

Luke and I started moving furniture back in last night and we’re all eager to get back to normal.

I can’t wait to sit here and watch TV:

Spring in the Living Room.

Poppy can’t wait to have her room back too:

Guest Room and our lab, Poppy, who has claimed this room as her own.

Aw, look at that face!

I will take some photos once the rooms are back together for a bit of a before and after.  I also have a fun summer home tour series coming up as well. I can’t wait to share some “after” photos with you all and get started on the boys’ bedroom makeover – I’ll be sharing my inspiration for that soon, so many ideas are going through my head for their new space!

Finally, more news on our Open Studio and eBook launch too!  Busy, busy. Thank you so much, friends, for all your reading and words of encouragement with our home renovations, it has meant the world to me.
