Friday Favorites (38)

Friday Favorites is a series where I share my favorite hobbies, books, films, TV shows, style, and more!

Is it me or did this summer fly by way too quickly?!? I can’t believe it’s nearly the end of August. I love September, but I feel like I still need ANOTHER August – between busy kids, college tours, trying to get stuff done for our online shop. Time went by very quickly this month.

I have lots of favorites to share!

Favorite Product

I really love my seagull notepads and note cards. They work great even once summer ends. You can see the full summer collection here if you’re still in summer mode. The 2024 calendar will be out mid-September and I can’t wait for you to see it!

Favorite Books

I’m reading the Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and it’s spellbinding. It really is such a different book and spans hundreds of years. Next up I’ll read Kristy Woodson Harvey’s newest book, The Summer of Songbirds.

Favorite Summer Highlight for John

John thinks he may want to be an art teacher so he spent the summer helping out at Little House of Arts in Scituate Harbor. He did classes there when he was little and absolutely loved it. Julie is so welcoming and fosters and sense of belonging and sparks creativity in everyone!

He loved being there with the kids, especially Pirate Week! He really got into it!

Favorite Night

I think it has to be Saturday of Scituate Heritage Days. Luke and I walked out to First Cliff to see the Luminaria and we also stopped along the beach. Luke found the most beautiful blue piece of sea glass:

We stayed out on First Cliff for a bit and then saw the most beautiful sunset back in the harbor.

Favorite Highlight for Conor

Conor spent a few weeks at sleep-away camp and absolutely loves it. He went for a week last summer and this summer he went longer. The camp is Camp Burgess and Hayward and is run by the YMCA in Sandwich. The camp has been going since 1928. Conor received Honor Camper for his age group.

Favorite Film

We LOVED Barbie. Luke and I went to see it at the cinema in the harbor and sipped sparking rosé while we watched. I don’t want to give too much of the film away but I LOVED it and I cried. I had 29 Barbies growing up, 2 Kens, and 1 Michael Jackson.

Favorite TV

We’re watching the 3rd season of Only Murders in the Building and it’s so good. We just finished up White Lotus season 2 and we didn’t love it as much as the first one.

Favorite Jewelry

My favorite jewelry is by my friend Sarah over at Where Watermelons Grow. I have quite a collection from buying gifts for myself or my guys gifting me. Sarah just gifted me a few pieces and I absolutely love them. I went over to her studio for a permanent bracelet. You can see a reel of the process.

In the photo you will see the Fleur Cuff, the permanent bracelet with the pearl, and the sand dollar bracelet. I opted for three sand dollars for my three guys. Sarah is offering my readers a forever discount of 15% off use the code “SILVERPENNIES” or shop this link.

Favorite Mini Getaway

Finally, we went on a very mini-getaway to Maine to look at a few colleges with John. It really was lovely to get away. You may remember I shared some Maine highlights from a trip two years ago and antiquing in Maine. This time we stopped in Kennebunk for a little shopping.

We also stopped in Freeport for some shopping at LL Bean and the outlets. We, of course, had to have some Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.

We stayed in Brunswick for two nights and stayed at The Brunswick Hotel and it was wonderful. The room was beautiful and so was the decor through out the hotel. The restaurant served a delicious breakfast each day and we enjoyed dinner on the patio one night.

Brunswick is a lovely little town with loads of great restaurants. We enjoyed dinner at Shere Punjab. We love Indian food and this was excellent. There was an arts festival so the town was abuzz with live music, crafts, and art.

We visited the beautiful campus of Bates one day:

Then it was onto Bowdoin the next day. Another beautiful campus:

We had perfect weather while we were up there. It was a lovely little getaway.

I love Only Murders in the Building!! I could hardly wait for the third season. I’m not sure our sunsets are quite as beautiful here on the West Coast, but we did see a couple glorious ones on the beach a couple of weeks ago!
