The First Sleepover…

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!  We had such a fun one and also hosted our kids’ first ever sleepover.  John’s best friend (naturally, Conor thinks it is his best friend, too) came over.   There was a flurry of excitement all day at our house in anticipation of the first ever sleepover.  If you don’t have young kids, the ‘sleepover’ is a very big deal.  We were thinking we would do this when John was 9 or 10, but like any parent, caved.  I remember when I was little I wasn’t going to be able to have my ears pierced ’til I was 16 but my mom let me when I was 9 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day because a friend was having her’s done.  Anyway, getting back to the sleepover.  We started the evening off with pizza and lemonade infront of Star Wars Episode IV.

It was so sweet listening to them talk about the movie.  Who was good, who was bad.  Conor running around the room with his home made light saber, shouting, “Hiya!”  You can see the towel roll light saber in the lower corner of the picture.  My husband is quite the Star Wars expert and argued with the kids over Storm Troopers – who they insisted on calling Sand Troopers.
The movie was paused to enjoy some chocolate nests in the kitchen:
Bed time was later than usually, but they were very sweet going to bed.  We opened Conor’s day bed out – into a king and the boys placed their lovies in their spots:
Doggie, Panda and Sock Monkey kept the bed warm while the boys brushed their teeth.  John read his favorite book to his bestie “The Monster at the End of the Book”.  All were giggling by the end of the story.
And except for a tiny bit of chatter, all were asleep by 10.30pm.  We had anticipated a sleepless night fraught with nightmares.  But it was perfect.  Conor strolled into our bed early in the AM (as usual) and everyone enjoyed Luke’s yummy pancakes for breakfast.

It was the perfect ending to a lovely sleepover. They are already asking when we can do it again.

PS Heading off bright and early today to meet Annie Sloan – so very, very excited to take part in her Boston class.  Can’t wait to tell you all about it later this week!

So sweet! BTW, we really enjoyed the birds’ nests! The kids made them with Grammy this weekend and they didn’t last long enough for me to get a nice picture for the blog. Sad. Guess I’ll have to make them again!
