Beach Cottage Blue

As you all know, I love all things beach!  Most of all, I love chippy and well-loved furniture in my favorite color (blue)!

Here’s a little chair that I worked on last week:

Beach Cottage Blue Chair (After)

I’m not sure if you can tell, but it is the prettiest shade of blue – ASCP Louis Blue – it reminds me of a perfect summer’s day sky (with not a cloud in sight).

Here’s what the chair looked like before:

(Before)

It is a very heavy maple chair with metal feet.  I think it must be from the 30s or 40s. Does anyone know?  I love the details of the legs, but I thought the delicate curves kind of disappeared in the wood.

So I got my chalk paint out.  I first painted some areas with ASCP in Old White.  I stippled the paint on and put it on quite uneven.  Once it was dry, I applied the ASCP in Louis Blue.

Then I sanded back the chair to look like it was well and truly shabby chic.  To achieve some distressing on the seat, I took a wet cloth and wiped away the paint to show the dark wood through.  Then I did two coats of clear wax to protect it.

Some white and dark peeking through:

Here are the legs:

It is the kind of chair that would be great with a heavy wooden desk or in a cottage bedroom with a pile of summer reads on top.  I was tempted to keep this one, but my Beach Cottage Blue Chair is looking for a new home.  As long as I can get Conor off it!

Your little chair is just perfect now! I love the color you used. I just bought some ASCP myself and I think I will have to go back and buy this blue now.

Jeanine, Annie Sloan has so many lovely shades of blue. I love them all. Louis blue is such a happy color. I think my favorite blue is her Duck Egg Blue. Have fun with your new chalk paint. I know you’ll become addicted (like me!).

What a cute chair (and son) !
I love a bit of distressing. I can’t seem to paint a piece without abusing it !
Love the colour too – I’m currently using French Grey, but they’re all gorgeous.
