Baked.

Conor enjoying the classic vanilla cupcake.

We love cupcakes in our house.  There is just something so heavenly, so giddy about the little cakes. I love the light airiness of the cake and then the super creamy swirl of frosting.  Growing up, I always loved this treat and now we have a proper old fashioned bake shop not more than five minutes from our home. We have been big fans of Baked. since they opened earlier this year and like their saying goes it truly is ‘the sweeter side of 5 South Main Street’.

Baked is located on Country Way between Riva’s Pizzeria and The Paint Exchange, two places that you all know I love from other blog posts.  There is something about Baked. when you walk in.  You are greeted by wonderful things for all your senses: gorgeous cupcakes, chocolate dipped oreos and twinkies, homemade play dough in bright colors, cute Fancy Pants sugar cookies that are nut free, the aroma of Jim’s organic coffee and homemade granolas and jams.

John’s hand reaching for Whoopie Pies

I’ve never had a filled cupcake before and I will tell you they are de-li-cious.  Amazingly so, actually.  My favorite filled cupcake is their Strawberry Shortcake.  It is a vanilla cupcake filled with strawberry preserves topped with frosting.  Conor and Luke are partial to the classic vanilla and, of course, John loves their chocolate cupcakes.  His favorites are the Boston Cream Pie and the Chocolate Pudding Cupcakes.

Really everything in Baked. is fantastic.  Aly, the manager, is really sweet and we’ve gotten to know her so well.  The owner, Jennifer Warshaw, is also the owner and executive chef of 5 South Main in Cohasset.  The shop features her mother’s recipes for Maggie’s Whoopie pies and chocolate cupcakes.

On a recent trip to Baked, John opted to try the whoopie pie.  It was actually close to the size of his head.  He, of course, loved it.  Very rich and decadent with tons of cocoa and a very thick cream filling.  Both Luke and I were able to enjoy one bite each (John, like Joey on Friends doesn’t share food!).  Oh, did I mention their raspberry jam it is like putting the taste of summer in a jar – super scrummy on english muffins, scones or in PB & J!
Baked. offers Cupcake Party Kits with unfrosted cupcakes, frosting and decorations perfect for your child’s next birthday party or gathering.  Well, it would even be nice for a little Ladies Night Out gathering, too.  Mixing bowls, spatulas and gift boxes line their shelves.
If you haven’t been to the sweeter side of 5 South Main, you really should.  Your sweet tooth will certainly be satisfied.
