Driftwood Sailboats

driftwood_beach_boy_quote

I call these my Sloop John B’s.  Partially after the Beach Boys song (first concert I ever went to) and partially after my son – John.  His middle name is Benedict.  He thinks it is after him.

If you’ve been following along on Instagram or Facebook then you know I’ve been making these this week:

driftwoodboats

Mini driftwood boats for my friend, Elyse’s upcoming event:

SEASIDEBOOKPARTY1rev

She’s doing a Seaside Tinkered Treasured Event at my friend Nancy’s shop – The Sea Rose Cottage.  You may remember I reviewed her lovely new book Seaside Tinkered Treasures here on the blog.

fleet_of_boatsAnyway, the boys and I are going to drive down on Saturday, June 14th to Bristol, RI and do some tinkering.  I’m so excited.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all things sea related

AND I also love hanging out with Nancy and Elyse and my boys!  So it is a win win!

These little driftwood boats are part of the swag bags.  The first 10 people to buy a book will recieve a swag bag and they are full of great stuff – chalk paint® samples, sea glass necklaces, soap etc.  You can see all the goodies here on Elyse’s blog.

The driftwood sailboat is the ultimate for me in tinkering.  We search the beaches of Scituate for driftwood.  I will tell you my boys have become very skilled driftwood seekers.

I love finding bits of wood with holes and imperfections.

Then I take fabric, material, salvaged edges to create sails.  This ships have ticking stripe, Ikat, dropcloth and even a little colorful sweetie…

I adore these little “itty bitty” baby ones too:

I’ll also have many, many boats at my Open Studio on June 8th!

Hope you can sail away with us in Scituate or in Bristol!

How cute are these boats!!! I will have to share your idea with my son, who is a tugboat captain, and loves all things nautical. Thank you for sharing.

Great job on the boats! One of my favorite things…I’m a driftwood and sea glass junkie!!! MY first concert was the Beach Boys at age 16!

So glad to have found your blog! An Annie Sloan resource AND a wonderful beachy vibe!! Have a wonderful weekend!

Hee, hee, I secretly love the Beach Boys!!!! And of course, I loove these driftwood sailboats! They are cute and rustic all at the same time. I love mine, it makes me smile every time I walk by it!!! Definitely digging the new fabrics you are using. So cool that they are going to be part of the swag bags at the seaside book party! So, I’m super bummed….I got all excited when I saw your post title “Open Studio” and then my heart sank when I saw the date – I’m pretty sure I can’t make it that day:(… Read more »

Well you were spared some of my stories I lost the comment. Me and my wild errant fingers late at night, lol. I love those little boats so much. Have to see if I can find couple chunks of wood to make one or two. That’s if dog doesn’t get wood before me. The fabric you used on all of them is perfect, so darned fantastic. I’d love to have big size and baby one. I’m working on beachy/cottagey theme in l/r. Finally got some things hung on walls today. I’d love to be at your friends day, would buy… Read more »
