A Beach Rose Chair

After: Beach Rose Chair

Living near the ocean, I love the wild roses that grow along the beach.  Rosa Rugosa: their pink and white hues and their fragrance always remind me of warm summer days complete with sand between my toes and melting vanilla ice cream.

But when I first spotted this chair it was more thorn than rose:

Before

Perhaps it was nice in its day, but looks very dated now.  The detail of the rose disappeared in the dark wood and the fabric.  Hmmm, what nice thing can I say about that?

So I started with ASCP in Country Grey and did one coat, distressed with a little sandpaper and dabbed Old White on the carved rose to detail it.  Followed by a coat of clear wax.

I got new padding from Jo-Ann’s which I cut to size.  Luke and Conor helped me remove the old fabric and padding and recover it using a staple gun:

I decided to recover the seat with a striped fabric of blues, whites and beige.  The Country Grey closely matched the stripe in the beachy fabric.  Well, what do you think of the new (and improved) Beach Rose Chair?
