Vintage Charm: Layering Old and New for a Spring Dining Room

Our dining room got a dose of vintage charm and a sprinkling of spring flowers. Here in Scituate we’ve had a few days that felt just like summer but mostly it’s been wet, chilly, and gray. This weekend marks the start of Conor’s spring break so I wanted to infuse our home with spring colors.

Styling the Welsh Dresser

The focal point in our dining room is the charming Welsh dresser with scrubbed pine. This English piece adds such a warm feeling to our dining room. It was a Facebook Marketplace find probably 8 or 9 years ago and still a favorite piece in our home.

I enjoy decorating it for the seasons. Originally it was mostly styled with ironstone but now it showcases my collection of Cornishware. Learn more about my Cornishware Collection here. I add to this blue and white collection whenever I find some new pieces.

Mixing Real and Faux Flowers and Plants

I’m a big fan of real and faux flowers. I love using real but with the puppy I haven’t had a chance to plant loads of spring flowers. Instead I grabbed a bunch of real pussy willows and mixed in some faux forsythia, maiden hair ferns, and hydrangeas I had in the basement.

Here’s a closer look:

The forsythia adds so much happiness, especially on gray April days…

It looks so pretty with the blue and white too.

Brass Accents

Another way I like to warm up my home is with brass. You will see I like to keep it muted and unlacquered. Our vintage chandelier adds sparkle to the space.

Brass and Crystal Chandelier

The brass is picked up on the shelves with a brass vessel I have the hydrangeas and maiden hair fern in.

And the warm hues are picked up in the original oil painting also.

The swivel chair is living here temporarily as we needed to make space in the living room for Beau’s crate. I should do a little update post on Beau soon. He’s really grown and has learned so much in the last month in a half.

A Closer Look

Here’s a closer look at the shelves. you’ll see I also like to mix in my shell collection and and other treasures I’ve collected along the way.
