The Sweetie Necklace

Candy necklaces were invented in 1958 and are still a retro classic.  The delicious little pale pink, yellow, blue and white candies on a piece of floss are like pearls for little girls (and for little boys in our metro-sexual time).  Conor had his first one the other day and loved it.

Conor, Poppy and a candy necklace: a love triangle!

I remember when I was little and yearning for candy necklaces; it was before I knew about Tiffany’s and their little blue boxes or Links of London and their lovely charms!  Then, I was happy with a 50 cent piece of jewelry.

I used to try and make my edible necklace last as long as it could. Do you remember how the string used to get kind of gooey and wet from chewing the little candies?!?  I can still taste the tart, sweet candies thinking about it.  The pink were my favorite even though they didn’t taste any different (like red M&Ms).  Conor wasn’t as selective eating his candy necklace – it was gone in 5 minutes!

If you are all grown up like me, but still love candy necklaces; you are in luck!  Links of London offers their Sweetie range.  Grown up bling that is still as sweet as candy:

They cost slightly more than their candy counter parts,  but can be adorned with charms and last longer than five minutes.  You won’t get the strange stares, as you walk down the street with these silver sweeties, that you would if you were wearing the candy kind!
Who doesn’t love candy necklaces?  They are so much fun!  I have to confess, I still love the candy ones, although I wouldn’t mind getting one immortalized in silver!
