Friday Favorites (62)
It’s the first Friday Favorites of the new year! So many of you said this is a favorite series on the blog and I enjoy it too. I have A LOT to share with you today; read on for my favorite books, TV, films, day trips, exhibitions and more!
Favorite Exhibit

Over the holidays we went to see Winslow Homer’s Of Light and Air at the MFA. I wanted to share this first in the post because it’s only on view through January 19th. If you want to see it you’ll need to pre-book tickets. We are museum members, but still needed to book tickets in advance. It’s free for members.

As you all know I LOVE watercolor, but I don’t always get a chance to see watercolor art at galleries. Many museums don’t display watercolor paintings due to fact that the sun can damage them; so it was a real treat for me! I love this one of the girl sitting where he used the sepia paper color, charcoal, and white watercolor or gouache. I really loved seeing his portraits of people.
The exhibit is wonderful. Many works are on display and they also have his mom’s watercolors on view which I loved seeing, especially her butterflies.
Of Light and Air shows his watercolors, oils, and sketches. It also gives a behind the scenes look at materials like his paint palette. I love seeing an artist’s well loved tools.

I also really enjoyed his oils but, for some reason, I was drawn to his images of the Caribbean. I love these palm trees. I’ve struggled a little with free feeling palms and these have such a joy to them!

The only disappointment we had was the number of people in the gallery at the same time. Some times it was hard to see the paintings due to the sheer number of visitors. After the exhibition we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the museum.
Favorite Books
I did a lot of reading over the holidays. I finished Here One Moment by Liane Moriarty. For some reason this book took me a long time to finish. I think it’s because I have a hard time with death or talking about death and the book starts out with a woman predicting everyone’s time and method of death, on a plane. In the end I really enjoyed this book.
For Christmas I asked Luke for Still Bobbi, Bobbi Brown’s new memoir. I absolutely loved this book. It is easy to read but so candid and also inspiring. Bobbi is just so real and whilst I’ve been a long time fan of her make up and now Jones Road. I shared my make up routine here. I love her even more now! Read this book if you’re interested in starting this year inspired. She talks about resilience, she talks about not being ashamed of who you are, she talks about mental health, and she talks about reinvention and pivoting. Amazing book!
I’m now reading Then Again by Diane Keaton. One of my favorite actresses. I love her in Something’s Gotta Give which we rewatched twice over the holidays. I found this book at the Second Chance Books (Scituate Library’s Book Shop). This book is about mothers and daughters, about being a woman, and about memories and journals. I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far.
Favorite Activity
We love sledding with our kids. Yes, I’m well aware that they’re 16 and 19 but we still love going together. We got some plastic saucers at Buttonwood Books (we still have a purple one from when they were little). Over the break we went to Widow’s Walk in Scituate.

For those that don’t live locally, Widows Walk is the public golf course which they open up to sledding and walking in the winter. It’s wonderful for sledding. Last year I completely wiped out. I pretty much face planted and rolled. This year we all had a blast. Perfect sledding weather.

Favorite New Toy
We got the Gozney Pizza Oven , stand, and peel from BirchBarn during their Maker’s Market. Matt was making breakfast burritos and pizza and it all was so good. Light airy pizza with gorgeous thin crust. I’m a pizza lover and when I saw that we could purchase a stand on wheels I was sold. It’s gonna be amazing in the summer to bring it onto the pool patio. I’ve linked to the Amazon model of the Arc XL because BirchBarn is currently sold out.

I plan on writing a more in depth post once we have some recipes to go along with it. We’ve been experimenting with homemade dough, as well as premade from Trader Joe’s and Market Basket. It’s been so fun and we did family pizza making on Christmas Eve. The oven gets so hot that the pizza cooks in less than two minutes!
Here’s a peek at our second attempt.

I know we’re gonna have lots of pizza parties this summer. I also really want to do a fig and arugula pizza.
Favorite Films
Wake Up Dead Man – on Netflix. The third installment of the Knives Out series is wonderful: a star studded cast, wonderful script, and it kept us all on edge of our seat.
Jay Kelly – on Netflix. A love letter to cinema but also a commentary on life and celebrity. George Clooney as Jay Kelly is a real movie star but Adam Sandler is wonderful. He plays the straight man and is really, really amazing in this. Quite possibly my favorite of Adam Sandler (well obviously apart from The Wedding Singer).
Favorite Indian
We LOVE Indian food. In England we were spoilt for choice, both in Bristol and London, but we always found it hard to find a great Indian meal here. We used to make it from scratch at home but we discovered Tumeric House in Weymouth maybe two years ago. We all love it!

We took Luke’s mom and the boys for a lovely meal. We go to the one in Weymouth but they’ve also opened one in Plymouth. Everything is wonderful! Some of my favorites are: Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Jalfrezi, Garlic Naan, Coconut Naan and Luke loves the goat dishes. We also love the Mango Lassis.

The portions are pretty big so you’ll probably have another meal to bring home. And who doesn’t love leftovers?
