Confessions of a Stay-at-Home Mom

I came across this on Pinterest and was just stopped dead in my tracks.  It all rang true.  There are sticky finger prints on cupboards, walls and the stainless steel appliances, well, I guess aren’t so stainless (or scratch proof) after all.  Toys are constantly ‘escaping’ from the playroom and entering my ‘zen’ places.  My hair is always scraped up in a ponytail or messy bun.  Dare I confess this?  I haven’t been to the hairdresser since May!  My roots are so bad – worse than SJP when she was doing the long root thing on Sex & the City.  Like many moms and dads, I’m tired.  But it is a good tired.

When I think of being little, I always remember how much fun I had.  Summer days seemed to stretch on forever and I’d pretend to be a barbie / mermaid in the pool, the highlight of the day getting a slush from Barron’s Country Store in West Andover.  It is the things that weren’t extravagant that hold the best memories: cream of tomato soup with my dad after skating on a frozen pond, making brownies with my dad, trips to Maas’ house, Joy rides with mom antiquing or going to visit a pig farm or the rock shop.

Our home is filled with laughter (most of the time)!  As with any two and five year old, there is the occasional temper tantrum.  I’m trying to recreate the fun things I did growing up with my children.  Mini adventures, long walks in the woods, searching for treasures on the beach, feeding the ducks, building huge forts or just pretending and reading stories in the playroom. I’m hoping in 20 years John and Conor will remember these times and I’m hoping in thirty years they will be recreating magical moments with their own families.

It’s ok. I haven’t been to the hairdresser since May either – and I don’t have kids as an excuse. But the long root look is “in” right now, anyway, so you’re just being fashionable. 🙂
