Christmas in Coastal New England

Christmas by the sea is just so special. Today I’m sharing Christmas in Coastal New England.

If this is your first time visiting my blog I’d love to welcome you to our home in Scituate Harbor. Scituate is a small seaside town on Boston’s South Shore. Our favorite way to spend winter is playing in the snow and sipping hot chocolate. I took these photos of my boys and dogs in the snow last year and I couldn’t resist sharing them one more time 😉

The dogs, of course, get involved, too.

Okay, I’m actually supposed to be sharing more about our town and Christmas traditions here, BUT I just got lost in this photos and HAD to share. I couldn’t just share one and not ALL of my little loves in the snow.

My good friend, Jennifer, over at Town and Country Living has organized a fun tour this week – Neighborhood Spirit of Christmas!

I had so much fun sharing more about our town in her last tour, that I thought it would be fun to share what it’s like to celebrate Christmas here by the sea!

Our town has so many traditions, and we’ve been taking part since our kids were very little. I’ll be sharing some photos from this weekend but also some from Christmas past.

Christmas in Coastal New England

Each year Santa arrives to our little town via boat.

The Harbormaster boat. You should see all the kids lining the harbor each year eager to greet the big guy himself. Now that our kids are a bit older we didn’t go this year. One year Santa fell in the Harbor. Poor Santa. The kids were mortified and worried for him.

A celebration follows Santa. It used to be in a community building in year’s past but now is held at Nona’s Homemade in Scituate Harbor.

I can’t resist showing you this photo of John – not yet 2, this first year we lived in Scituate. He wasn’t a big fan of Santa yet:

Aw, poor John. This is one of my favorite Christmas photos (ever). Ha! Ha!

Here’s another I love from a Christmas past, taken on Egypt Beach. I used some from this session for our Christmas cards.

Let’s walk out to the lighthouse. Spotted out on Cedar Point:

Each year the Scituate Lighthouse gets dressed up for the holidays with a wreath.

I never tire of the lighthouse and each time I visit I think of my dad. It was his favorite spot.

Over the weekend we took part in Scituate Community Christmas’ Merrytime Adventure Scavenger Hunt. Scituate Community Christmas is a wonderful organization that supports families during the holidays and throughout the year. This is the first time they’re doing this scavenger hunt and thought it would be fun to share some of the stops.

One of our favorites was this mural, created by Jess Hurley Scott. You may remember I interviewed Jess as part of my Creativity Over Coffee series, here.

John and Conor actually snapped a few photos of Luke and me in front of it:

Next up is the Cudworth House all decked out for the holidays. The installation was done by Cara Esch of Dear Rose Studio, Navya Kelly of The Little Flower Cottage & BirchBarn Designs.

Such a stunning installation.

I love how Navya mixed in evergreen, berries, pinecones and oyster shells.

You may remember that I interviewed Navya for my Creativity Over Coffee series here. I’m hoping to feature BirchBarn and Dear Rose in the new year 😉

Before I show you more of Scituate, let’s take a ride over to Cohasset, a neighboring coastal town. Each year they set up this lobster pot Christmas tree and I love it so much:

Only in New England, right?!? I wish the lights were on when I took the photo.

Okay, let’s drive back to Scituate and go along 3A. I can’t share beautiful festive Christmas photos without showing you Kennedy’s Country Gardens decked out for the holidays.

I’m in love with this arrangement outside of Kjeld Mahoney Photography. Isn’t it stunning?!?

Speaking of Kjeld, we better take a look in his beautiful gallery. It’s filled with beautiful gifts.

If you don’t live locally, you can see more about our cards and art in our online shop – here. If you’re looking for more Christmas inspiration, you can see our Christmas Home Tour here.

Well, I think that about wraps up our Christmas in Coastal New England tour, but will be sharing a few more posts before the holidays. Until then wishing you all a wonderful holiday season from Scituate Harbor! Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did writing it.

Love the Lobster pot tree.
I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and one
of our local towns has a crab basket tree as
this area is known for our blue crabs.
That mural…….just absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for sharing the beauty of your town at Christmas.

Oh! How I would love to go into the Kennedy Country Garden Shop. Right up my alley!!! Well, I wanted to let you know, I have finally found the perfect spot for those nice starfish you painted and sent me with my lamp purchase. I put them on our Christmas tree! At one point when I lived in California, we lived in Montara. Which is right on the coast. Just a short walk to the water. And I have always lived about 30-40 minutes away from the ocean. Now that we are in mountains of Arizona it is nice to… Read more »

Thank you for this tour of your wonderful Christmas scenery, you live in a great area and i can see why you love it so much, have a very Merry Christmas with all your family and friends.

Jennifer @ Town and Country Living

So pretty, Daniel. I love the lighthouse with the wreath. Have you seen photos of the Christmas tree in Kennebunkport, Maine? It has a lobster tree topper on it. Your lobster pot tree reminds me of it. And John crying on Santa’s lap reminds me of my grandson Forest who also cried during his holiday photos this year! LOL.

Linda @It All Started with Paint

I just adore your home and home town and your New England Christmas traditions! Makes me yearn for my beloved East Coast! 🙂
