A Place to Create Together: Finding Silver Pennies Studio Opening in Cohasset Harbor

Friends, I have some really exciting news and I’ve been bursting to share all the details with you but I wanted to make sure everything was happening before I shared.

I’m delighted to share I will have a place we can create together. The Finding Silver Pennies Studio will be opening in Cohasset Harbor this summer!

From My Sunroom Studio

This little business really emerged out of this blog. If you’ve been a long time reader then you know when Conor went to Kindergarten I began dabbling in watercolor. Over the years, I’ve shared tutorials and free printables. Six years ago we opened the online shop. This business has grown, and grown, and grown. Really to the point where I don’t have room in our little home for all the inventory.

To give you an idea – the majority of our office was filled with notepads, tea towels, and painting supplies, shipping boxes and paint palettes were in our bedroom and under the bed, our landing was the spot for cards and workbooks and I also had to store more workbooks at my printer’s office.

Finding Silver Pennies was taking over our whole home. On top of that I fill orders and work all the hours in a day because I can just run upstairs and pack wholesale orders.

Finding Silver Pennies Studio

I’m so excited to give you a peek inside Finding Silver Pennies Studio. Nestled in the heart of charming Cohasset Harbor at 97 Elm Street, the 900 sq. foot studio will be the new home for painting, packing, retail and classes. More on all of that below. But first let’s take a tour.

We got the keys on Monday and it was so exciting. John snapped this. Can you see how thrilled I am?

You will first notice the gorgeous long window boxes on the exterior. I’m IN LOVE with them.

Here’s a peek inside:

Blue and White Studio Space

In the front of the store is a retail space which opens into a bigger retail space and the area we will be offering classes:

Light filled room with oak floors
Blue and white room with neutral rug unfurnished

Then there’s a corridor which has a small kitchenette off of it:

Putty Cabinets and marble counter

As well as a cute bathroom with my favorite color scheme (blue and white):

In the back there’s another room which I plan on using to paint:

White room that will become my painting studio

This room we’ll also store all the inventory:

I’m slowly bringing everything over to the Studio.

A Peek at Some Finds

I really want the space to be a mix of new and old, much like our home. I found this amazing scrub pine at Goodies II in Scituate Harbor. Isn’t it lovely and it fits perfectly here:

I’m in the love with the wood and the pretty brass hardware. Sandy thought it was from the 1940s.

I got this bar at Goodies as well and we’ll cut down to counter height and paint. I’m planning on using nautical charts for the top. Maybe I’ll share making this piece over. Let me know if you want to see a DIY post about it.

Stocking the Shelves

First things first is getting all my inventory over there so I can continue to fill orders.

Moving in

We had these shelves in our home and Luke put them up for me the other night. My Superman!

I’ve unpacked list pads and mini pads.

I still need to figure out more shelving options and display items in the bigger and smaller retail spaces.

My Vision for the Studio

This little 1930s building has been many things – a market, a hairdresser, an office, and most recently The Strand. It is nestled right next to the American Legion and some new condos they’ve just added to Cohasset. You can see James Brook from the back and side and Cohasset Harbor out the front window.

The building is charming. The walls aren’t straight but the moment we walked inside it felt like home. It felt like the next step for me and Finding Silver Pennies. The lighting is wonderful and inspires creativity. That’s why we plan on opening up the studio for watercolor classes and other art classes. John’s interested in teaching teen classes and I, of course, want to teach watercolor. I have so many fun ideas. Classes will be intimate. I think up to 8 people.

If there’s classes you’d be interested please let us know. We’d also love to hear times that would interest people – morning, night, weekends etc.

I’ve created a Finding Silver Pennies Studio Instagram page follow us there for updates on the studio progress and upcoming classes and events.

Thank You

James Brook in Cohasset at Dusk

I wanted to thank all of you for all your encouragement over the years. None of this would have happened without you and my husband’s support and encouragement. I am also grateful to other small business owners who have given me so much support and advice and my printers, TPI Solutions Ink, I am so grateful and I’m hope you come and visit us this summer in Cohasset Harbor at the studio!

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! I wished I lived closer so I could take watercolor classes from you.
I wish you much success and please pace yourselves so that you both don’t get overwhelmed. I bet there are numerous youth that will want to take John’s classes and I predict you probably will have a waiting list
for your classes. CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!

WOW!!! You go girl! CONGRATS!
I can’t imagine you had all that inventory in your home. It will be fun for you to head out to “the office”. Nothing could be better than a job around creativity… And personally, I can vouch for the awesome job your printer does. xoxo
