Being a beach girl, tired of seeing white snow fall outside my window here in New England, I thought I’d share a fun DIY summery project with you. This one involves sun splashed weather, gorgeous cocktails and twine!
I promise this is a super easy craft.
Here’s what you need:
– cork coasters (I get mine at Widget Co but they also have them at craft stores and large trivet size at Ikea).
– regular white school glue
– twine (from a craft store)
I tried out a couple of different methods. I first tried using wood glue which was easy to use, but then didn’t dry clear. It left an ugly yellow residue. Yuck!
Then I got the hot glue gun out which was easier than the wood glue as it held the twine together but left bits of wispy glue. It also got tacky when I’d put a warm mug on the coaster.
Regular school glue worked the best, and dried clear.
In the middle of a coaster dab some white school glue. Wind the twine in your hand so it is tightly coiled and place on that spot of glue. As you wind around the center, apply more glue to the coaster and follow the glue pattern with your twine, applying pressure to the twine in the center. Continue until you reach the edge. I applied the twine around the edge of the coaster and trimmed the end. Then I used a tiny bit of hot glue for the loose end.
Ta-da! Now we just need some warm sunshine and some frozen margaritas!!!!
