A Little Bit of Old White

When I came across this table, I thought it would look so sweet painted.

It is probably from the 1930s but I really, really didn't like the formica table top (it just looked so shiny).  But I loved the wooden legs.  I found out while researching this piece that they started using formica with wood in the 1920s, which surprised me I thought it was more recent than that.

I thought the Rock Maple table might be a fun piece to try this look on.  I got out my ASCP in Old White and did a rustic finish on the top to make it look like wood.  Then added two coats of clear wax and dark wax.  The dark wax went into the nooks and crannies I created.  Here's how it came out:

Textured Top

If you didn't know,  you would think it was real wood.  I love working with Annie Sloan's chalk paint for this reason!  I  love how the paint can really transform furniture.  I love the mix of paint and those warm colored maple legs:

Here it is half open.  It opens to a full circle table.  I think it would look so sweet with either some wooden chairs or industrial metal ones in a kitchen.

It would also be perfect as an accent table with your favorite flowers from the garden on top.
