Vertigo, Studio Celebrations & More
Hi friends, earlier this week I promised a “life lately” post as I’ve been suffering with vertigo. I thought I’d share more about this and a little celebration.
Suffering with Vertigo
I spent most of last week on the couch with my sweet Max cuddled up right next to me. How can dogs just sense that we aren’t feeling well? It really is quite amazing. I am so grateful for his love.

On Tuesday afternoon, I was at my mom’s house, and starting feeling very strange. I was seeing many of her and the whole room felt like a merry-go-round spinning around me. I called Luke and he drove me to the doctors. The next morning I had some blood tests to rule anything else out, but the doctor diagnosed me with Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, also called BPPV. He gave me some medicine for dizziness and told me to rest.
I laid on the couch most of the week and John and Luke covered my teaching and shop duties. I just was too sick to do anything. I couldn’t look at screens or read.
What Causes Vertigo?
You may be wondering what causes vertigo. There are different causes based on the type but for BPPV it’s usually the crystals in your inner ear have moved out of place and are unsettled which causes you to be disoriented. It’s as if your brain doesn’t know where you are in space.
We went on a really rough boat ride the Sunday and my neck was also really tight and out of place so we think it was a combination of the two that dislodged the crystals.
So we’re trying to get the crystals to go back in place. It’s now been almost two weeks and while I feel better than I did I’m still dizzy.
Ways to Help Vertigo
I tried to get in with PT but there was either no specialist or no openings until September which just is too long to wait.
I’ve been going to a chiropractor. Yesterday was my last visit. On my first visit, he did a modified Epley procedure, which got rid of one type of vertigo. On my second visit he did that same procedure and then realigned my neck. Yesterday he realign my back. So fingers crossed. I really hope we can get the dizziness to stop.
An Increase of Vertigo
The chiropractor and sites online have mentioned vertigo is on the rise. I can’t tell you how many people have told me their own stories of vertigo. I’ve read that inflammation due to Covid-19 and added stress in people’s lives are a contributing factor.
Okay, enough about ailments. Shall we talk about something fun!
A Celebration
Since getting the keys for the studio we decided it would be fun to have a celebration of the opening of the studio. We invited close family and friends for a festive afternoon. I shared a video on Instagram here. (It took me so long to try and create it with my dizziness).

This was one of the reasons I was so desperate to try and get the vertigo to go away, but we had the party anyway and I just held onto furniture or the wall.
It was truly a beautiful event. I only got a handful of photos.

Knead catered the event and it was as delicious as it was beautiful. They always do a fantastic job and Victoria delivered everything with a smile. We enjoyed mini sausage rolls (a favorite of our family – very English), Chimchuri meatballs, crudite, charcuterie, and a phenomenal dessert board.

The florals were designed by Everwilde. Amity grows these amazing flowers at her home in 5th Avenue in Scituate. She created simple mason jars with the prettiest flowers I’ve ever seen.

It truly was such a special time. I’m so grateful for this village of support.

New Signs
Another thing to celebrate?!? The new signs at the studio. Don’t they look fabulous.

We used Brenner Signs for the creation and installation. They did an amazing job. I love everything they created from vinyl window lettering to the hanging sign and the 3D sign above the counter.

Well, I think that about covers what’s been going on in our life lately. I hope you enjoyed this update.
