PBS Kids Demo Day!
On Saturday, we (me and my three guys) had the pleasure of spending some time at the PBS Kids Lab and got to try out all their new games and learn about their new programs.
If your home is anything like mine, your kids love watching PBS too. My 7 year old, John, is obsessed with Wild Kratts and my littlest loves Curious George. Our friends over at PBS have been up to some very cool stuff. They’ve been creating some fantastic games for children ages 2-8 that focus on math and learning.
This show has the cutest theme song! Peg and her cat solve problems and make discoveries using math. They also get your child at home involved by asking questions. The show will be airing on your local PBS station this fall.
I don’t know about you, but I struggled with math when I was little. I used to be in tears when my father got home from work because I couldn’t do the word problems. My boys don’t seem to have the same fears with math, as I did, and I think part of it is that math is now made fun through shows and characters they love.
It was so hard for me to pry John away from this Wild Kratts game at the PBS Kids Lab:

The Wild Kratts Creature Math focuses on kids solving math problems (addition and subtraction) to help build habitats for all sorts of animals from wolves and raccoons to squirrels and other Wild Kratts animals. John wanted me to tell you, “The game is really cool”. This game is available to download on the iTunes App Store here.
John also really enjoyed CyberChase’s 3-D Botopolis House where you compete against a clock to see how quickly you can build a 3-D house. Your child is able to turn 2-D plans into 3-D shapes. If only we had this game when I was learning geometry!!!
While John was busy doing geometry and adding and subtracting, Conor was also having fun with some new preschool games.

Conor loved the Cat and the Hat games. He also enjoyed Curious George’s Bubble Pop. Bubble Pop is available for free here and helps children to learn to count, one bubble at a time!
His absolute favorite game, though, was PBS Parents Play & Learn which is a free mobile game. This is the first app designed by PBS to help parents foster early math and literacy skills in their children. There are more than a dozen games featuring places children love like the train, the supermarket and the park. Get the free game for any device here.

As you can see, my children had so much fun at the PBS Kids Lab.
