Home For the Holidays: Hand Painted Christmas

It’s party time once again!  Shelly over at Shizzle Design is hosting the Hand Painted Christmas Party.  She is super talented with painted furniture and I can’t wait to see what she has posted.

I’m so excited to share this child’s wooden chair.  It started off as a very humble, antique chair.  A friend was moving and no longer needed it.

Antique Chair (Before)

As you can see, it was well loved.

Chair (Before)

I thought it was so sweet and immediately knew it had to be red.  There is just something about a little red chair. Perhaps you heard the story of the one that has been on the news recently in New England.  A little red chair traveling from Woods Hole to P-Town and beyond – click here for that story.  I digress.  So I thought this little chair would be a perfect candidate for Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint in Tricycle:

MMS Milk Paint in Tricycle

I get my MMS Milk Paint from my friend, Nancy, over at the Sea Rose Cottage. MMS Tricycle is such a lovely red.  It really does remind me of a shiny, brand new red tricycle under the Christmas tree!

I did two coats and then I got this lovely bubbly effect that the milk paint does when it self distresses!
Self Distressing of Milk Paint
I lightly distress and then added some MMS Antiquing Wax.

It really gave it a nice, old look.  Some black went into the cracks and crevices and scratches and I think it looks perfect!  Here’s how the chair came out:

Here you can see the aged look:

The boys absolutely love the chair!  Many a snack or game of Clue is enjoyed sitting on it 🙂

Conor enjoying the “new” chair

Can’t wait to see all your painted projects!  Come share them over at Shizzle Design.  Don’t forget I’ll be hosting the mantel link party here on Tuesday!

Adorable! That color (Tricycle) is a perfect shade of vintage red! It’s been one of my biggest sellers! Perfect for Christmas!

Love the color also…I used a sample size and painted a bunch of small items that are now in my space.

Danielle, thanx for sharing your little red chair over at: http://alittlebitoshizzle.blogspot.com/2012/12/home-for-holidays-2012-hand-painted.html! I agree, it had to be red. Isn’t that funny how you see a piece and you just know? The old chippy Tricycle color was the perfect choice for it and I your waxing knocked it out the park. Thanx for sharing ~ Shelly
