Favorite Getaway

Luke and I went down the Cape to Eastham for an overnight stay at our friends’ beach house and it was the most wonderful way to celebrate the end of summer and also to celebrate Sally’s birthday.

Sunday on Coast Guard Beach in Eastham

It was our first time to Eastham and we went on a few hikes, devoured amazing food, and enjoyed some time on Coast Guard Beach and First Encounter Beach.

Favorite Books

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware – This is the first book I read by this author. It’s a thriller and it instantly gets you right into the book. Kiera Knightly is staring in the Netflix adaptation. I just wanted a thriller to read by the pool / beach. It kept me guessing AND on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed it so much, I’m now reading her first novel, In A Dark, Dark Wood.

The Blue Book – by Elin Hilderbrand with illustrations by Meredith Hanson. In Elin’s book The Hotel Nantucket there is a fictional Blue Book guide but it didn’t exist until now. This book gives a peek into Elin’s island favorites from walks to restaurants and her tips for getting to the island. I picked up a copy because Luke and I are planning a day trip down to the island in September. Let me know if you want me to share highlights on the blog.

Favorite Films & TV

We’ve been watching loads of great things.

Films

My Oxford Year – On Netflix. We thought this was going to be a light hearted rom-com set in Oxford, but it was a little bit heavier than we were expecting. I loved it though.

TV

Death Valley – on BBC or BritBox. Crime / Comedy drama series set in a small Welsh village. We loved this one! Binged it big time and can’t wait for a second series to come out.

Bodkin – on Netflix. This is about a true crime podcast set in a small Irish Village where there was a disappearance. This show starts very slow but we got sucked in. Very, very good!

Douglas Is Cancelled – on BritBox. This is fabulous. Maybe don’t watch the trailer as it might give away too much of the show. We binged this one. Very, very good!

Four Seasons – on Netflix. Comedy series written by Tina Fey and focuses on long time friends and their ups and downs over a year. It’s wonderful. We can’t stop laughing. So well written.

Favorite Color

Our vanilla strawberry hydrangeas are turning the most beautiful pink hue. They make me so happy!

Favorite Podcasts

I really love listening to podcasts while I’m hanging the laundry, cleaning, and driving. I often listen to business or creative based ones. Here’s a few I’m loving (either series or particular episodes).

  • The Shannon Acheson Show – My friend Shannon just started this podcast and I was honored to be her very first guest. You can listen to that episode here. I’ve been friends with Shannon for probably 14 years and she’s interviewing a whole bunch of creatives and entrepreneurs.
  • Cailini Coastal on Preppy Podcast – I really love the style of home decor shop Cailini Coastal so it was fun to listen to the founder, Meg Young, talk about how it all began.
  • Books, Beach & Beyond – it’s season 3 of this podcast with Elin Hilderbrand and Tim Ehrenberg. They interview so many different writers. I love listening to my favorites but also discovering new authors and books!

Favorite Dorm Room

We moved John into his dorm room at RISD the other week and it made my mama heart so happy to help him get settled. He’s since added more decor to his walls. I love the fish he painted.

John loves RISD and was so excited to get back down there. He also took us to the most amazing Thai Restaurant – Champa Thai.

I really enjoy your blog and the other content every week. I laughed about the settling for college. My grandson was in the same thing 2 weeks ago in TN. I sent him a crock pot and recipes. I see the vinyl record turntable and Rumors ready to play. Good taste. It is nice to see how they grow up into adulthood. I am in S. FL so we are still hot and summery. We will get cooler in October.
