Easy and Fun Halloween Costumes

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love dressing up as something completely different.

Ever since I was little I’ve loved this holiday. Growing up my mom ALWAYS made my costumes – I was a mermaid, a wicked witch with green face (a facial mask that tightened to my skin as I trick or treated), Michael Jackson, a bride, a fairy princess, Carman Miranda and more.

Over the years we’ve had wonderful costumes and my boys love Halloween as much as I do. John always dressing up as something a bit different and Conor always taking the hero role. This year we’re going to a 1920s party so I thought it would be fun to look back on Halloween.

Are you in need of some costume inspiration? There’s still time to create something fun! Here are some fun and easy costume ideas (in no particular order). Simply click on the title to learn more about the costume.

Dr. Who Costume Ideas for the family

Our kids were super into Dr. Who this particular year. Luke had my dad’s old Burberry raincoat and we ordered him a sonic screwdriver and found the bow tie at Savers. The kids outfits were from Old Navy and we must have found the masks at Target. My outfit – the nightgown and robe was from Savers. I think they wig and vampire teeth were, as well. I really wanted white vampire teeth but we could couldn’t find any. It was so funny because we go for Halloween in the Harbor and loads of people were down there but no one recognized it was me!

Bob the Builder

Conor LOVED Bob the Builder and he was such a cute mini one. We got him a construction hat and he already had the toy tools.

We dressed him in jeans, shoes that looked like construction boots, and a flannel shirt. Gosh look how little he was!

Spooky Crow Costume

I told you John always like to something slightly different. The crow mask was the foundation of this costume and we found a choir robe at Savers. This mask is similar.

Lois Lane and Clark Kent

Luke’s favorite super hero is superman and we thought it would be fun to dress up as a pair. These were pretty easy costumes because he already had the superman t-shirt . We ordered the glasses and press pass.

I found everything I needed for Lois Lane on Amazon. I ordered this blouse, pencil skirt, and press pass.

Maverick Halloween Costume

One year Conor wanted to go as Top Gun. He already had the jeans and jacket and we just got the dog tags on Amazon. This jacket is similar.

The Joker

This one was so fun! We experimented with liquid latex to create the joker’s smile and scare lines. Then John used some face paint.

Sad Clown

John found most of this costume at Savers. He found giant trousers and created fun patches on them. He used suspenders to hold up the trousers and also wore PJ bottoms underneath along with a ruffly shirt. We got the face paint and wig online.

The over-all look is so fun and it was a pretty affordable costume.

Cowboy

This was another pretty easy costume. We just bought the cowboy hat and bolo tie. He also got the gun and holster (linking similar) but he wore his own clothes.

Wicked Witch

Another favorite costume of John’s. He reused the choir robe from the crow and put a cape over it. He got a witch’s hat and added green face paint.
