365 Days of Poppy

One year ago today a little puppy named Poppy joined our family.  We got the boys up and all bundled into the car and headed to Sterling Animal Shelter.  I’d seen a photo of Poppy on their site and January 5th was the first day she could be adopted.

We got there early, before they even opened.  Poppy was the first dog we visited with and it was love at first sight.

She was so little then, only 18 pounds, and was full of love.  She kept giving us kisses and nuzzles with her head.

Conor, our youngest, and Poppy became fast friends and they have truly grown up together.  There is true Puppy Love there.

Poppy has really adjusted to her forever home and she loves her boys.
She loves runs on Minot Beach almost as much as she loves to run around our backyard.  She has literally made a race track back there.  I’m not really sure how we are going to fix it when the spring rains come:
That dirt used to be grass.
She looks forward to her walks and a friend in Minot commented on how she prances as she walks passed.  Calling her Poppy Prancer.  She loves deer antlers and chicken breasts from Wishbones in Scituate Harbor.
She LOVES cheese and popcorn and is always there to have some.  She loves to lick the water on the side of the tub when the boys are having a bath:
Poppy also loves the occasional trip to A Fox and Hounds in Hingham where she can play with her doggie friends.  If you have a dog and our looking for a great day care or kennel, we highly recommend them.
Her favorite place is on John’s bed because she can look at all the traffic as it goes by:

Poppy isn’t always an angel.  She dug up all my bulbs and she made herself a ‘doggy door’ in the screen.  Another item we’ll need to fix this spring.  But we still love her.  How can you resist those soulful eyes.

We are so blessed to have found her.  I really can’t remember what our lives were like before.  I can tell you not nearly as good.  If you are looking to add a four-legged friend to your family you should check out Scituate Animal Shelter or Sterling Animal Shelter.  I know there is someone there waiting to start 2012 off with you!
