Homemade Doughnuts

Delicious cinnamon and sugar baked doughnuts fresh out of the oven!

Equipment

  • 1 doughnut pan
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 baking rack to put doughnuts on to cool

Ingredients
  

For the Doughnuts

  • 1 Baking Spray with Flour Like Pam
  • 2 cups flour all purpose
  • cups sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg extra large, lightly beaten
  • cup milk whole
  • 2 tablespoons butter unsalted
  • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Topping:

  • 4 tablespoons butter (half a stick) unsalted
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • ​​Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray doughnut pans with baking spray with flour.
  • In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla.
  • Stir the wet mixture into the dry mixture, don’t over-mix.
  • Spoon batter into prepared baking trays, filling each doughnut space 1/3 full.
  • Bake for 17 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes.
  • While the doughnuts cool on the rack, melt butter in the microwave and make cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Dip the top of the doughnut in butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
  • Serve immediately!

Notes

These taste the best served warm with coffee or tea or a giant glass of milk.
You can add the topping to the underside as well but we felt that adding sugar and cinnamon to just the top was perfect!
Alternative toppings - powdered sugar, frosting with sprinkles, make a glaze and drizzle over the top.
