My Favorite Cozy Spaces

It’s been so cold here in New England. We’re talking 1 degree Fahrenheit and all I want to do is sip tea or coffee and snuggle. I thought I’d share my favorite cozy spaces as part of the Cozy Living Series.

How to Make your Living Room Feel Cozy - Finding Silver Pennies

I’m one of those people who doesn’t love winter. I’m always cold (I get cold in air conditioning) so when it’s this cold out I don’t want to do anything. On top of that we just had a blizzard here in our coastal town and now have artic temperatures coming back for this weekend. Brrr. Do you guys feel the same way?

In sharing my favorite cozy spots, I thought I might also share some tips on creating cozy spaces (even in January). Click on the title to read more about each idea.

1. Celebrating Snow with Snow Globes

I also love using overstuffed pillows, fur throws and fur pillows. We no longer have our Chesterfield sofa but the tufted chocolate leather really made our living room feel cozy. We now have a white sectional and it’s great for family snuggles.

2. Use fur in unexpected ways

These are actually fur rugs that I tucked in baskets under our faux galvanized table. It instantly says cozy:

3. Add some Branches

Pretty branches can make you feel spring is just a little closer. I added some gorgeous rattan and sea glass inspired bottles to amp up the cozy coastal effect.

Here’s another cozy corner with branches. I think I got these one from Whole Foods and the chair is from Ikea (wingbacks are always cozy):

4. Moss & Old Books also adds a layer of nature when you’re stuck inside

We actually have been working on our fireplace over the winter break so looking forward to showing you a new idea too. For now, this is an image from two years ago.

You can even spray paint books, like I did with the black ones, for a more cohesive look.

5. Add some brass and comfy slipcovered chairs

This was our place setting for Thanksgiving, but this could be a lovely winter tablescape. I brought in warm woods, candlelight, fresh eucalyptus and brass. The brass reflects light and makes interiors warmer.

6. Kilim Pillows Add Texture

I discovered Revival Rugs as an affordable source for Turkish Kilim pillows. These pillows are made from vintage Turkish rugs and add so much warmth and texture to a home. I love them in all rooms!

The warm oranges pop against the blues.

They look great in living room but also wonderful on beds:

7. Add leafy plants

Create your own tropical terrariums.

I made these last year and they still look wonderful.

Or you could use a faux fig like I did here then there’s no worry about watering.

8. Hot Chocolate Party

If all else fails host a Hot Chocolate party and turn the heat up!

We shared these homemade marshmallows and this hot chocolate bar last month as part of this series.

Beautiful, as always. Weather in central Massachusetts beyond cold! I saw Scituate got really hammered with this last storm. So sad to see all the damage and flooding.

Everyone one of these suggestions is spot on! I can’t get enough greenery in the winter months. I just reminds me that there’s still life. Like you, I’m typically freezing all winter, but I’ve noticed that it forces me to slow down and rest. Stay warm, friend!
