As many of you know, we live in coastal New England. A little fishing town called Scituate and it certainly feels like summer has started early as we’ve all been at home. For years, I’ve dreamed about making a floating starfish wreath. I really, really love starfish (even though we can’t find them on our beaches). There’s something so beautiful and simple about them.

I thought this would be a perfect project to tackle this week as part of the Seasonal Simplicity Tour hosted by my good friend Krista, over at The Happy Housie. All my friends are sharing fabulous summer wreaths (direct links at the bottom of the post).

What’s wonderful about this is you only need three essential elements so it’s really, really simple!

DIY Floating Starfish Wreath

What You’ll Need

• Wire Wreath Form (I reused one from the Dollar Tree – I had made moss wreath last spring)
• Starfish (I used a mix of these and these) – 50 in total
• Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun
• Wax Paper (to protect surface)

Method

Step 1 – Roughly lay out starfish to get a feel for how you want to position them on the wreath form.

Step 2 – Heat up glue gun and glue starfish to wreath. It helps to lift the form up on a basket to be able to glue starfish on the edges.

Step 3 – Work in sections, building up starfish. I lined the back of each one with hot glue and added more glue where necessary once in place. Be careful, I kept burning my finger tips.

Step 4 – Think of this a maximalist wreath. The more starfish you layer, the better the wreath will look!

Step 5 – Allow to dry and remove any of the glue strands. You can add a ribbon at this point but I decided to hang mine without. I think it goes better on the Pool House with no ribbon – super simple.

Here you can get a feel how it looks in our yard – we’ve been enjoying books in the hammock, watching Conor swim in the pool (it’s far too cold for me to venture in just yet) and enjoying meals and coffee outside.

Luke still needs to put our little whale weathervane up as we took it down for the winter.
