A Brush with Greatness (Annie Sloan’s Wax Brushes)

A while back I was chatting to my friend Nancy on the phone and telling her how much I needed a new wax brush.  I’d had mine for over two years and I’ve really worn the bristles down.

Too much waxing, perhaps?!?  Ha! Never!

Anyway, she told me she would be getting some of Annie Sloan’s new wax brushes in soon and would send them to me to try out when they arrived.

Well, guess what I’ve been playing with?  These new wax brushes.

They are a joy to work with and as with all of Annie Sloan’s products a lot of care and attention has gone into making these brushes.  You may notice the shape of these brushes is different than you’ve seen before.  They are angled and tapered. This is to enable wax to apply in the corners.  There’s been many a time I’ve waxed inside the drawers of a dresser or tried to get into the corner of a hutch or book case or trunk and wished for this shape.

The small brush is perfect for smaller spaces.

See how little it is?  The handle measures 2 1/2 inches and is very light weight.  It is great for doing inside a chair or intricate carving. I used this brush for the clear and tinted wax on my Meryl Chair:

The large wax brush is perfect for dressers, side tables and bigger pieces.  The brush measures 9 1/2 inches.  Like, Annie’s wonderful paint brushes, it holds the wax and allows it to disperse over the piece rather than coming out in clumps.

It is still necessary to wipe away the excess after you apply with the brush.  When I first started waxing furniture one of my biggest problems was applying too much wax.  So I would apply the wax with cheese cloth.  I still think this is a valuable way of applying wax, but you do lose some wax which is absorbed into the cloth.

These brushes enable you to apply just the right amount of wax and I think my waxing time is even quicker!

She also has Annie’s new flat paint brushes for those of you who like the modern and super sleek look.  I haven’t tried these yet, but if they are like the wax and Annie’s other paint brushes then they will be fabulous.

These wax brushes are made in Italy and just like Italian gelato are yummy!
