Timber!!!!

Timber!!!!  It isn’t very often that you have a crane in your driveway and you completely block street traffic.

Actually, this was the first time for the crane. We blocked traffic at our old house with our GIANT moving sale.

Well, this is what was going on yesterday.  There is more excitement today (but I can’t share just yet what it is, hopefully next week).

Anyway, the other day, I shared a little tour of our home’s exterior, click here if you missed it and I mentioned how much we wanted to take down the Norway Maples in the corner of our yard.

Shaded backyard

We had about 9 Norway Maples – a bunch all twisted together and one on it’s own.  All around a beautiful black walnut tree.  We’ve wanted to take the trees down since moving in but hadn’t gotten around to it.

Now the trees had to go so I called my good friends at Hansen to help me out.  We used Hansen Tree and Lanscape at our last house and also used them earlier this year with our neighbors for trees on the front part of our house (also Norway Maples).

If you need tree work done, I highly recommend Hansen. I so enjoy when they come to do quotes because I end up learning about the trees on my property but also about other plants growing and what they’d recommend putting in areas that don’t have plants.  We had some scraggly bushes in our front yard and they recommended pruning and adding some fertilizer.  They said often times people rip things out and if they only did a bit of pruning and care plants will come back. It kind of reminded me of finding old pieces of furniture and making them new again.

Anyway, back to my story about the crane in the front yard.  I was really hoping these trees would go sooner rather than later and was delighted by the crane’s arrival in our yard. They set everything up and the boys had front row seats.

We were all mesmerized as they cut the trees and then lifted them up and over the power lines.

One tree went out of our yard whole.

Now the lone walnut sits waiting to grow. Conor and John think it looks like a palm tree but as it is so tall and skinny but I told them it can now grow because it has room.

A HUGE thank you to Norma, Ed and the whole crew who made this possible.  They removed all these trees in an hour!

I think Conor may have a new dream profession he wants to add to his list of chef and artist –

I’m so excited for you to see our plans for this part of the yard….

But you’re just gonna have to wait a little bit to know what it is.

For now I’ll leave you with my two cuties and a few stumps.
