Apres Ski

Our Family at Cranmore Mountain

We were the “Never Evers”, according to Cranmore’s rating system for skiing.  Our kids, John (age 6) and Conor (age 3) had never skiied before.  I had once, when I was very little, but that doesn’t count.  Luke had skied, as a child, somewhere in the UK, that used brushes instead of snow.  Yeah, I can’t really figure that out either.

So, on New Year’s Eve we were the never evers.  We got up bright an early excited for our day of skiing:

Sunrise in North Conway

Isn’t that beautiful?  It was from our hotel window at the North Conway Grand.  The hotel is great for families.  Kids eat breakfast for free with a paying adult.  They had loads of activities – movies, ice cream socials and craft hours for the kids.  Not to mention the heated outdoor pool.  All of my boys loved this.

The kids were rolling around in the snow and then jumping in the pool to warm up.  It was freezing while we were there.  Actually it was way below freezing but that didn’t stop us!
Here’s Conor all bundled up and ready for his ski lesson.

Here’s John on the bunny hill, looking quite the pro don’t you think?!?

John hitting the slopes

All the staff at Cranmore were great and the rentals and passes were so reasonable.  It was perfect that the boys could learn to ski, while we were also doing the same.  John and Conor loved skiing almost as much as we did.  I’m pretty proud of my husband – he was amazing on skis – he even helped me up when I wiped out.  I also have to say a huge thank you to our friends, Greg and Christina, for lending us their ski gear so we looked like we knew what we were doing on the slopes!  Oh, also a big thank you to Nonni and Grampy who watched Poppy while we were away.

We’re hoping to try and do a bit more sking this winter.  Maybe at Blue Hills in Milton.  Can any local friends recommend anywhere else?  This was the perfect day to end 2012 and start the new year.  We are no longer the “Never Evers”!
Ready for more in 2013!

Just had to mention that all these photos were taken with my new DSLR camera and I’m still learning to use it.  I’m hoping to get better with it this year.
Don’t forget to share your Word for the Year on Sunday, January 6th at my first link party of the new year!  In case you missed it, I blogged about my word for 2013 here.
Next week I’ll be sharing John’s room makeover and a little furniture before and after with you.  Happy Friday!

I love Cranmore! It is such a great place to go with the kids. I think they have a big anniversary this year so watch out for some special activities and deals. We also like to day trip to Wachusett Mountain~they also have night skiing too. I have a new DSLR too! Now I have to figure out how to use it–it’s on my list!

Sounds and looks like you guys had a good time 🙂 I’ve only been skiing 2 times in my life and tend to stay in the lodge sipping hot cocoa or spending the day hitting the outlets 🙂 I’ll leave the cold wet snow for my husband and son 🙂 hehe
