Juliet China Cabinet (Before & After)

I'm so excited to share today's before & after with you.  I got this beauty from a lovely couple on Freecycle.  Last year they gave me, yes, you read that right.  They gave me a beautiful dining room set and the other week emailed to see if I wanted the matching china cabinet.  I currently don't have room to use the dining set so it is up in the attic, but did have room for a china cabinet.  Remember my search for a pie safe?!?

Meet Juliet:

She has graceful curves and a lovely custom blue interior, but she didn't always look this way.  Here's how she was looking when I picked her up:

Before

I'm not sure if you could tell in the before photo but the cabinet was originally a yellow with some lovely pink detailing.  Can you hear the sarcasm in my voice?  It may have looked nice in the 1950s dining room, but not in my sunny seaside kitchen.

I painted the interior of the cabinet with a custom mixture of Annie Sloan Provence and Duck Egg Blue.  Once that it was dry I got out my brand new Annie Sloan paint brush that I picked up from, my good friend, Nancy at the Sea Rose Cottage.

Now, Annie's brush isn't cheap.  It is $27.95, but I have to tell you; it is worth every penny.  The oval shaped pure bristle brush really holds the paint and easily glides on.  It adds a lovely soft texture to the paint.  I felt like I painted this china cabinet quicker than usual.  It was such a pleasure to paint with.  I'll still use my purdy brushes for cutting in, but I think this is now going to be my favorite brush.

I painted the exterior and shelves with Annie Sloan's Old White - such a lovely antiqued white which looks beautiful paired with blue.  I finished with two coats of Annie Sloan clear wax and buffed.  Here's some photos:

I'm so happy I now have a beautiful display for my mom's Juliet china by Royal Doulton .  It was her wedding china and for years was shoved in a cabinet, the plates stacked on top of each other.  It looks like it was always meant to be displayed in this china cabinet.

I'm so grateful for this new addition to our dining room / kitchen.
